Help!

We bought a (level) building plot in South Lanarkshire with full planning permission, building warrants, site wall, garage and site services (except gas) already in place.

Unfortunately our builder has just pulled out - their current project will not be finished in time to ensure our home (his next project) is completed before his partner emigrates to Australia! frown

Home is a detached 5 bed, 2 storey, circa 3700 square feet (approx 340 square metres).

I found a few names online through findabuilder.com for tradesmen registered through the FMB. Only one builder has so far replied - so, does anyone have any recommendations for good builders that they have used in Glasgow / Lanarkshire that would be interested in this project???

Thanks in advance for your help!

Scotty built my house and i would recommend him but he is so busy i would be suprised if he could fit you in at short notice and to be honest he is not cheap.
But if you are good why should you be cheap?
I know another builder who built my extension this year and he was excellent and very reasonable.
Only reason i got him is due to Scotty being so busy.
He has now built my extension my sister inlaws extension my motherinlaws extension and my next door neighbours extension.
All this year.

Email me if you want any further info

Not sure if he would work out that way, but call Jack Bobin at Bobin Homes in Linlithgow. Jack built our last home, sponsored our racing activities for 10+years, and is a first class gentleman - you will not find anyone more reliable than Jack.

Another vote for Scotty. He renovated my first house, and it was ready for me coming back from abroad. Guy did a first class job. I have a feeling your in the Larkhall area or thereabouts - be carefull, as there are some serious cowboys kicking around that way now in the building trade. Lately though, the building boom has meant even the cowboys are getting work.

If you need a joiner to do the roughing out etc, then I know a very good one. He's done a lot of work for me, from decking to kitchens, and has been really good. I can ask him if he knows a good builder without a massive waiting list if you want.

Is there not a well known saying about the house that Jack built?

I know mate. Still smashing the green traffic light glass in the main street of a Saturday evening outside the Music Room pub as well I saw last week. wink

Edited to say, I grew up there, but thankfully managed to escape over the wall some years ago!

Thanks for the replies folks!

Yep - I'm keen to avoid the cowboys... John Wayne and Clint Eastwood put up my original conservatory before riding off into the sunset never to be heard of again... a very expensive mistake!

Phoned my Joiner and my Sparky this morning, and both recommended the same builder. So, two independant recomendations, that might count for something.

Guy called Holton - does a lot of timber frome kit stuff, one off's, special builds etc. Sounds like he fits the bill for the project you have. Look hi up, or I can get a number for you if you want.

They also told me a couple to stay away from, but obviously I'd not post names on here!

Good luck.

And yeah, from the Larkhall area, but moved out of there a couple of years back to up past Newmains way.

Mick will do you a good job.
The other builder i use also uses Mick to do the wood butchery.
So if Scotty is too busy which he usualy is or too expensive let me know and i will pass you on to the other guy who is cheaper.

Good luck

Thanks for the recommendations!

If you could pass on the contact details for Mick Holton that would be great... send me a mail on the people to avoid too if you get the chance!

Cheers in advance!
