from the thames valley police site

Police are currently at the scene of a serious collision on the A329M.

The collision, which involved two vehicles, happened at around 2.10pm today.

A Peugeot 106 which was travelling on the southbound carriageway crossed over the central reservation and collided with a Volkswagen Caddy van travelling north.

The woman driver of the Peugeot has been pronounced dead at the scene.

Sgt James Atkinson, who is investigating the incident said: “I am keen to speak to anyone who was travelling on the A329M at this time and who has any information as to why the Peugeot crossed over the central reservation.”

The A329M remains closed at this time and motorists are advised to avoid the area

God knows how this happens, I use that road quite often and am amazed at the number of times cars have crossed the central reservation (about 50-60 yds wide), and find themselves heading the wrong way on the opposite carriageway....

Mind you as it happens so often you would have thought that one of the genius town planners would have thought to put a barrier up in the middle of the central reservation........not sure how many people are going to have to die on the 1/2 mile or so before the local council/highways agency do something about it........

Horrid bit of road there, I always worry about the part with no central barrier.

I was travelling north literally minutes after this happened, and got caught up in all the aftermath.... Scary to think if I'd left on time it could have been me frown

The stretch with the wide grass central reservation if a throw-back from the days when they were considering building the M31 from Reading to the M25/A3 junction irked

That totally screwed up the traffic everywhere around bracknell yesterday, however I gather there were at least another two accidents as well.

My ex managed to nearly have a very nasty accident on that bit of road without a barrier near the M4 joins heading towards bracknell (although I think they've added more since), basically someone drove into the side of her car pushing her onto the grass at about 80 and caused her to spin instantly. Luckily she stayed on the grass bit!

I believe the bloke got done for dangerous driving and leaving the scene of an accident in the end as someone followed him after they saw what happened and phoned the police with their number plate etc.

There was one on the elevated section at Winnersh, apparently very nasty also. Attributed to black ice/poor driving.
