I have yet to find any decent power hikes for sensible money on these engines, which is somewhat surprising - I would have thought a re-map + better breathing on this type of installation would release a lot that had been traded in production for economy, emissions, smooth power delivery etc - particularly if the cats are replaced with free flow minimal units and inlet and exhaust breathing de-strangled (not exactly the noisiest of Cats as standard!) - Found the usual culprits who consider because you can afford a Jaguar, you can afford £thousands for 20HP.... -
Surely 40 ft lb on the V6 and 50+ ft lb on V8 can be found for less than £1k by an enthusiastic tuner?

You can make an immediate difference by using 98 RON fuel, the ECU is already mapped to take advantage of it. Similarly you could also put straight through silencers on the vehicle and the engine would fuel & spark to take advantage of it.
The problem is that developing this costs time & money, even for a semi-pleasant road car, and the gains are probably not there to be had, well not at the level you want.
Don't forget, 240 bhp from 3 litres was Ferrari territory not so long ago, getting any more requires revs and probably cams too, and realistically that's going to be very expensive. Same goes for the V8 engines too.

It does seem such a waste - the X Type - I know it was almost made to be the ridiculed one in the range - buttt surely a stylish compact sleek Jag with 4WD doesnt come along every day - shouldnt somebody try and take the tranny to the max at lowest cost possible - Since heads are already being flowed by several companies incl the one that used to do Nobles (spare capacity there now?) + superchargers and turbos can be aquired inexpensively now, I would have thought a £1.5-2K conversion incl a free flow modded silencers to be fair game - anyone REALLY know what tranny will take in road use -- + 30% surely (maybe a cooler enhancement.)The problem is that developing this costs time & money, even for a semi-pleasant road car, and the gains are probably not there to be had, well not at the level you want.

A nice silver X type with stylish wheels and lowered sensibly +30% power hike would be a lovely daily driver. - Buy a 3 litre for £4k + £2k tuning + optional £1.5k wheels, tyres (part ex) + springs and dampers = £7.5k for a very desirable car ............anybody?
there are probably 4 or 5 performance car manufs now using tuned 'ford' V6 - surely they dont all pick this engine because its expensive to get another say 40 lb ft torque? - somebody is missing something here - though i suspect it could be the difference in Trade cost and rip off the Brit Retail that makes it a nonsense - as usual....

I have fitted a replacement element to the XKR. Seems to have helped a tad.I seem to remember the picture on their website showed the air filter being situated in the main engine bay (I could be wrong, I wasn't paying too much attention I was looking for something completely different at the time). I know that with the new Jaguar CF SV8 they carefully site the air intake in front of the radiator to get as colder air as possible.
