Quick question about the Throttle cable

I have got it all connected and it seems to be around 4cm too long? It suggests bending the top of the Throttle pedal, but I think it would foul on the nuts. I would need to bend it about 4 or 5 cms at the top.

Also the pedal is just an "O" rather than an actual pedal as with the Clutch & Brake is that right?

Is your car a "K" or a "VX" or cross-flow? All the cables are different IIRC and you need to ensure that you hae bought the correct cable for your particular car and that it is a Caterham one and not one from a Rover 25 or whatever. I am not even sure that one K cable fits all versions of that engine either

Roller Barrels K's have a different cable to the normal K one.

Yes the throttle pedal is an 'O' ring rather than a conventional pedal.

Re your cable - as the others say, make sure you have the right one. Are you building a new kit or repairing an older car?

I think its a new Sigma Academy. Not familiar with the Sigma but I would check that the cable is connected correctly to the throttle body linkage, for example on the K there is more than one possibility (options for different cars).

Yep, i had to bend the pedal as the manual says. great bit of engineering theretongue out

Place a block of wood or something between the throttle pedal and stop, then with a screwdriver in the end, bend the pedal and make final adjustments on the throttle body.

Yes, it is a Sigma Academy car ( I guess that info may have helped!)

Thanks TC, It just seems a hell of a long way to bend a piece of metal... Unless someone cocked up the pedal or ordered the wrong throttle cables for Sigmas....

Ah - yet another example of customers doing the development work for Caterham Cars....

I managed to find out that there is also a second pivot point for the throttle pedal, so going to try that out..

If the throttle cable is fouling your nuts it is about 3foot too long

Moved the pedal to the forward mount and it works fine, I'll have to see what the leg room is like once the seats are in this week.

I've had this problem too. I haven't had a chance to try moving the pedal forward (towards driver) but I'm 6'3" and I need all the legroom I can get. Is there anything else that can be done? I've bent the pedal as much as I dare (about 2" back now) and it's almost touching the nut that holds the pedal on the pivot.
Why couldn't they just give us a correct length cable?? rolleyes

What has everyone else done? I'm assuming everyone has had to deal with it.

Have you tried phoning Caterham and/or getting a cable the right length made?

I'm going to phone them in the morning or I may even go round to have a look at one of their cars (it's only 25 mins away).
It's an Academy Kit so I assumed everyone would be in the same boat. Maybe everyone has just moved the pedal. I really don't want to have to do that.

Hi Don,
I know of a couple of guys who bend the top of the pedal.
After moving the pedal I think you should be able to bend and avoid the pivot, but I think it would be useful to see one in the flesh to help you guage.

On the 1st pivot I have had to adjust the cable as much as I can to get what feels like the right opening point (whilst I'm guessing as I have still not finished the cooling to start the engine yet smile

I think I've just about cracked it. I took the predal right out and put it in a vice then put it back on the rear most pivot point. This and lots of messing about with the throttle stop has just about done it. I was really worried I was going to crack the pedal though.

Sounds like you're at the exact same stage as me. I've gone to install rad and all the pipes, bleed the brakes and clutch...then it's start-up time yikes
