Entry into Britcar
Discussion
Hi all,
We are currently building an Ultima GTR and it is nearing completion. We are looking to race the car and were looking at Britcar as one of the main options, however ultimately this would come down to costs (and eligibility obviously!). I was wondering what a typical season would cost? What are entry fees etc and is it possible to just enter certain (or indiviual) rounds to get a flavour of it before we took the plunge completely. Any information would be greatfully recieved! I appreciate this is abit of an open ended topic.
Thanks in advance, Jonny

Contact Claire or James on 01252 834377 or email admin@eerc.co.uk to get answers to your questions direct from the "horses mouth". I think Claire said she was in between Christmas & New Year.

However, to confirm a car like yours would be a class 1 or 2 and to my knowledge both categories are now over subscribed. We have entered class 1 with what will become a pretty serious machine.
You may be able to do odd races here and there where bigger grids are permitted or the invetiable reliability toll starts to hit. The Spa 4hrs would be a definate entry at this stage I suspect.
Assuming you built the car with focus on endurance not pace the biggest running cost is tyres. Circa £200 each in your size. You might get lucky and have a size that has compound choices in which case you might get some very good test/race life from a set but if you don't do your homework you could be throwing tyres at it. Check with Dunlop first to see what they can do and what series/cars the options available were built for.
For a car like yours its definately going to be the ultimate genuine test of ability in the UK as well as being great friendly fun. Competition is strong and getting more clued up all the time so the series is changing but the sooner you join in the sooner you can challenge.

jonamacg83 - I raced my Ultima in 2006 - had a year off and was getting the car ready with the 2008 Britcar in mind. When I spoke with the organisers last year they were of the opinion the Ultima could race in Britcar and was told in December to get my entry in quick. I am still trying to get the fuel tanks sorted for endurance races with “Dry Break Fillers”.
I went to the show at the weekend and spoke with James Tucker who said categorically that the Ultima would not be allowed in Britcar but was very welcome in Britsports.
The benefit of the Britsports I suppose is that with 50 min races I wouldn’t need to refuel but it’s not what I had in mind.
