Iknow Dell aren't the greatest quality or bits they put in their PCs, but has anyone bought one recently and can comment on customer service/delivery time?

They used to be dreaful for customer service and not sure if they've addressed this. Also, what was your delivery time? They build PCs up to order, but I don't want to wait 2 months!

Ordered a desk top two years ago, which arrived promptly.
Also ordered 2 laptops a year ago which also arrived within a weel or so.

Also they had a record that I had ordered from them before and I was able to drive a bit of a deal.

Bought a laptop just before Christmas, arrived next day.

Went to their website same day as it arrived and my 3 year warranty was already registered.

Fantastic!

Ordered a desktop PC in the evening of Thursday 29th Nov and it arrived the following Tuesday. I think the website said to allow 10 days for delivery.

Cannot comment on the customer service, as I've not needed it.

phoned the customer service people a couple of months back when my mates pc stopped conneting to the net (had to be networked via the pc),was put through to an indian guy called rodney....then kept asking me for my email address so they could send me a customer satisfaction survey rather than to solve the problem, after around 40mins(!) they put me through to some more support people who said that the call would be charged at a standard rate before they would help me....the standard rate was £35! At that moment i just told them to sod off and hung up the phone.rolleyes

I have brought lots of Dell PC's, servers and notebooks. I have allways had good service, and only 1 fault in that time, which Dell attanded site the following day to replace a motherboard (their warrantys are good value).

Not desktops, but I've ordered a few servers from them recently. The only problem I had was the most recent server where they cancelled the order due to a shortage of parts but failed to tell me. When I phoned up to find out where it was the day after the estimated delivery it took a while to find someone who could tell me why the order was cancelled.

I've found the best way to deal with them is to get to speak to one of their sales people in India. That way you can get a better deal and they can keep a track of the progress of the order for you.
