BMW E30 M3 - S85 DCT [RNGTOY]
Discussion
Many people seem to have strong opinions on the viability of
putting the M-DCT box behind the S85.
Some say that it has never been done and cannot be done
because of software reasons.
Well.... they are wrong
Not only has my tuner friend a solution for this but it turns out
that the ///M division has actually made one example of this
combo and written software for it
Quite relieved that this stumbling block seems to be out of
the way.
As to get the actual box in the car I hope to have the box and
headers shipped to Iceland later this month. Then I can start
test fitting the stuff and see how brutal the transmission
tunnel redesign will be....
Also looking into running either E60 M5 or E9X M3 instrument
cluster.
Getting some of the gauges working is easy (like
tacho getting info from the ECU, same for gear) but others
are a bit tricky. Speedo and fuel gauge for example I´ll have
to take analog signals and translate to CAN messages.
Looks like this part is getting solved by a very talented
BMW employee (and an M3 freak) in Munich - will keep you
posted.
As for changing gears, I could use paddles but somehow I
like the idea of something like this
Only need a signal up/down.

Amazing work mate! Although why not strap a couple of turbos or a supercharger to the motor while your at it!
Packaging might be tricky Also want this to be a solid setup, no heat / boost issues that plague FI.
600+ hp should be enough for a track car weighing less than 1300kg.
Should fit no trouble, I've seen V12's squeezed into the bay of the E30 before now.
It was designed to take a straight 6, so squeezing a V8 or V10 into it shouldn't be hard as they're shorter engines, the exhausts though might be a issue! Loving this project either way

This has been "progressing" slowly....
Other things in life seem to get in the way of spending time/money on this
Got a friend of mine who has already tore down his Europameister E30 M3 to help me yesterday, he´s very normal:
Drysump tank out:
Surface rust under battery:
Rear side windows out and started to remove the heater:
Worse has been seen on E30's, hopefully salvageable:
Small rust dot on the A-pillar:
Seems ok here:
Some cancer:
Garage filling up with parts
Need to get some off to storage:
Took the drysump tank apart while taking it out, cleaned it and reassembled:
Plan now is to strip the car as soon as possible and then it´s getting blasted by "Dustless Blasting" ( Home - Dustless Blasting). Then I´ll get a better idea how much metal work has to bee done.
