A few years ago before I could afford a decent watch my dream was a Breitling crosswind, In the 2001 or 2002 catalogue it was ref 661, the new prices was I seem to recall £ 2450

Two-tone steel case
steel bracelet
Black dial with Gold numbers

Do any Breitling experts on here know if this or the crosswind range is still made and where I can pick one up ?

The Crosswind, Crosswind Racing and Chronomat were replaced around 2005 by the Chronomate Evolution range similar look but slightly more bling ....

My advice buy second hand only

Thanks the one at Gray and sons has a blue face so thats not the one, The one at AA looks very similar ( if not the same ) the one I tried on at the shop did have a silver and gold strap.

So is the one at AA new or used, I cant really tell, if its new is it likely to be the crosswind if as the last post stated these ceased production 2 years ago ?

I did have somewhere the old catalogue were it was from, I will need to try and find it

I've got a 2002 Chronolog and price list here. The watch you were looking at is a Crosswind, part of the Windrider family. 661 is listed as an Automatic Chronograph, two tone case, black dial and pilot bracelet in steel. In it's day, it was £2405 retail.
I found this:

It's a nice looking watch. I don't do two tone, but I do like this one a lot. I bought a Chrono Cockpit a couple of months ago and it's very similar in design to the Crosswind. The new watches are more expensive retail, but I managed to get £500 off the Chrono Cockpit (however it's the third Breitling I have bought all from the same jeweler)

The watch at AA is a Crosswind - it has the Roman numerals

The watch at Gray and sons looks to me as though it is an 'older' (not current) chronomat - i think they have a smaller diameter dial

I had a Crosswind racing a while back it's the same as the Crosswind but with more simple hour markers, leaving the dial looking less busy.

I am informed that this is the exact model that has taken over from the one I want, In my opnion its nowhere near as nice looking ( and a grand more )

http://www.watchfinder.co.uk/Breitling/Chronomat-E...

Are Breitling no doing any watches with Roman Numerals now ? for some reason it really appealed to me above the standard numbers.

I have found one on ebay thats 10 years old and already on its second owner and im just worry too much to start getting involved there, but it appears to be the exact model.

Does anybody have a list of watch shops that sell second hand ?, I know www.watches.co.uk and www.abands.co.uk if anybody can add any more maybe my best bet will be to register interest in that watch and keep checking various shops, maybe something will turn up.

Here's the Chrono Cockpit I mentioned earlier. 2008 model and available in many dial colours if the copper colour isn't to your taste. Apologies the photos aren't great, I can do some better ones in daylight tomorrow if you want.

Hi , Following on from my earlier post I have found a crosswind in stock at a 2nd hand dealers,

The model I have found looks more like the model DON 1 ( 2nd post ) shows but the model PJ Large posted from my memory is more like the watch I remember trying on 8 years ago.

I can see the bezel is different as the first is gold all around but other than that the watch face looks different to me but I cant pinpoint why its different,

Is it just the way the photo looks, the PJ photo maybe appears to have a blacker dial and is more of a close up shot.

I am told the Model number for the one I have found is B13055 but I cant match this with any of the breitling ref numbers, the catalogues I look at are usually just three numbers like the 661

I think there is a good chance, I just want to be sure that im getting the one that I very originally tried on, I notice that the one you posted is blue dial so maybe thats why it looks so different, But im sure the one posted by PJ is the model I tried on years ago.

The photo of the one I have found im not sure that its identical to the one posted by PJ

If you can wait until later I will look at the Chronolog again and see if there is a full ref number for the watch for you.

Thanks PJLarge, I know its asking alot but any chance you could scan the page in the catalogue that has the wtach , also the cover page of the catalogue, I have turned the house upside down looking for my original catalogue and cant find it anywhere, I think I woud recognise the cover sheet if I saw it again and then in turn the actual watch inside, If its the same year catalogue the watch was on the right hand page of the catalogue.

PJ the dealer advises the watch they have is the same as ref 661 on PAGE 61 of the 2002 catalogue and if you say thats the one at £ 2450 original price then its probably the one, If you can take those photos it would be appreciated though.

Hi All, PJ any chance of the photo of catalogue cover page and page with the watch on, Its typical the watch I found the day I go to order it and its SOLD, Anybody here by any chance the buyer im told was one of the Islands just off the UK.

Anyway for the Breitling experts the Model numbers start with a letter, what do the letters denote, I have closed the model down I want to B13055 and have today found a D13055 that appears the same but a all gold colour Bezel, Or maybe the first letter denotes a strap type ?
