Sorry I don't have a picture , but whilst I had the dash off I was wondering what the little black box strapped to the wiring was. It's just behind the flasher relay in the second relay board mounted behind the instruments under the dash lid. It has 6 wires going in, and some electronics inside. Any one any thoughts?
thanks

OK, no that's not it, This is a black box ( looks like it's been made by someone at home with a small electronics kit). The central locking relay is a grey box , with sperate connerctors ( one with 5 pins, and a seperate ground connector.)

The one i'm after is plain black plastic and doesn't look mass produced

Could it be something to do with the alarm/imobiliser? - maybe the movement sensor? Mines under the centre console but is a black plastic box, a bit smaller than a fag packet and about 8mm thick.

Might be the ice sensor 'hub', can you follow the wires , is it about 3" x 1.5" x 0.5" mine I found lying around under the dash by my left knee.
6 wires not sure but more than 4 is all I remember could have a quick look if you want.

Hmm, Following the wires isn't really possible, all taped up. I don't believe I have an ice sensor so unlikely. Alarm , possible it's a foxguard based original alarm. I wondered if it might be something to do with the speedo, ( ie it converts to signals from the transducer on the diff, to something the speedo can understand, but not sure. If you have Steve's bible, you can just see the box strapped to the wiring haress in the pictures of the alram unit and central locking relay. It's nothing to do with locking as even removed the car locked/unlocked ok.

Is it jet black, ribbed, about 5/6 inches long, 2 inches deep and 4 inches wide, white 6/8 way connector on the one end? if so it's your heater fan ECU, top left connector burnt out on mine and the fan wouldn't work, rather than pay the £150 for a new one I just spliced in a new wire, works a treat. Hope this helps,

Hammy

It sounds like it may be the mirror ECU i.e. the gizmo that controls the movement of the door mirrors.

This is no help to anyone whatsoever (why change the habits of a lifetime), but I have just found my (Meta) alarm control box behind the dash under the RH air vent*. At a guess I'd say it was about 4x2x2 inches, it's black, but it has a whopping great sticker on it saying what it is.....

*When I say "air vent", I mean the thing that you can get to point more bl&&dy hot air at you on a summer's day
