UPDATE
If you want something quicker then this method will work really quickly

Simplest way of all..............

  • Go to www.tinypic.com
  • Click the browse button where it says File to locate the image on your PC.
  • When located, and showing in the File box, hit the "Upload Now" button.
  • When it says "File successfully uploaded" you'll see four boxes with http addresses.
  • Just click your mouse on the address in the "IMG Code..." box. This will copy the address.
  • When you have the PH Reply box open, just click your mouse when you want the image placed, and then go to Edit > Paste and that address will be there.
  • Click the preview to make sure it is right pic, and then submit.
  • Takes about 30 seconds!
If that still doesn't work then post on this thread for specific help or read below for other methods:

To post a picture on PistonHeads it must be hosted somewhere publicly accessible on the internet and you need to know it's webaddress (also called its URL)

If it is a picture which is saved on your own computer you will first need to have it hosted somewhere on the internet. There are several ways to do this but the easiest is to register for a free image hosting site such as:

Flickr
ImgPlace
ImageShack
Picasa Web Albums
Photobucket

Once the image is hosted on the internet (or if it is an image you found on the internet) you will need to find the URL. Most of image hosting sites will have this information somewhere on the page with your picture but if the page the image is on doesn't have this information then it can be found by following the steps below:

1. Right click on the image
2. Click "Properties"
3. The URL will be displayed in the box that pops up (The "Location" in Firefox, or the "Address (URL)" in Internet Explorer)

Now that you have the URL, it is time to add the image to your post. First, copy and paste the complete URL into your post. Next you need to add two "tags", one before and one after the URL, exactly as shown below:

[pic]url[/pic]
e.g. [pic]http://www.pistonheads.com/images/logo.jpg[/pic]

Assuming you have done everything correctly, the picture will now appear in you post when you preview or submit it.

Like this:

If you are having problems, make sure the tags are exactly as shown above, including the "/" at the start of the second tag and using square brackets, and that the URL is correct (test if it works when copied into the address bar of your internet browser).

Also, if you are posting from the autotrader site, make sure you dont use your home address when you search as it will identify where your car lives wink

www.tinypic.com is much nicer as you do NOT need to register it also gives the different formats ready to copy and paste onto the page.

It's really about time that PH had some JavaScript to at least construct the correct tags for n00bs even if it declines to go as far as hosting the pics (understandable)

You can now do [img] [/img] tags as well as [pic] [/pic].

Also, a good tip when quoting someone's post that has a picture/ lots of pictures in it is to make the quoted pictures thumbnails so that you can see what you are quoting about, but yet you don't have to scroll through the same ten photos in their large size again. See below.

Ok ive got a load of photos to put up on the PH web site, Currently im with 'webshots' who you guys recommended. However I find the time it takes to download each photo to webshots a real pain in the arrse! Also it seems that you cannot enlarge a pic any bigger than 600mm. Then, (and this is also where I need some help), to upload the immage onto the PH forum, I find I can only upload one picture at a time! the result of this is that to paste two or three pics i have to keep going back to webshots, copy the pic then paste on PH frown There must be a much simpler way! Also ive noticed that some cars have there numberplates painted out! I would like to do this on some of my pictures before putting them on a public fourm, any ideas how?
Thanks, Fatboy 18

Do you mean upload the pictures to the website? This is based on your internet connection uploading the file size. Download speed is always significantly higher than your upload speed.

If you upload the image at a resolution larger than 600x, I'd be surprised if you can't view it at a larger size. Maybe the pictures you are uploading are then being resized to 600x wide. This could explain why it's taking ages for them to upload?

Not that I know of. I open all the pictures in separate tabs within my web browser and then flick back and forth.

Any image editing program will allow you to do this. I use photoshop and select the number plate and then delete it. Filling it back in with the original number plate colour to keep it looking right. You could do this in Microsoft Paint.

To tell you the truth. I'd never herd of Webshots until you mentioned them.

I use Flickr.com and have no problems uploading to them. What do you mean by receive and process? Do they have to approve the picture?
