Guys

Im thinking of getting my LS2 VXR a supercharger. I only want the Harrop 112 supercharger running 6psi. Ive spoken to a couple of wortec dealers about this, and everything seems to work out, except one thing, the effect on the warranty. The way it has been explained to me is that all items in the car (including drivetrain) are covered by the Vauxhall warranty, unless the fault is blamed on the supercharger itself, which in this case the damage will be paid for by the wortec warranty on the charger (except incidentals-clutch). However my Vauxhall warranty expires in November 2009. If I was to get the charger fitted now, the wortec warranty would run out in Jan 2009, leaving the drivetrain essentially unwarrantied for 10 months. Has anyone dealt with this situation before, and have you suffered any problems warranty wise? Also, should I wait for November to have the charger fitted (so wortecs 12 month warranty aligns with Vauxhall warranty), as I was quite keen to have it fitted now (insurance renewal time anyway-only increases by £250) to avoid mid-term insurance adjustments. Any help/advice would be appreciated, and hope to see you all at the Ace on the 27th.
Many Thanks
John

Hi John. I was lucky enough to get a VXR500 same set up as your looking for and comes with 3 year warranty on everything. You will never regret having that screaming supercharger fitted though. As far as a warranty is concerned you might be able to buy an extended (top up) warranty to cover the remainder of the VX warranty period, either from your local friendly VX dealer or maybe even Wortec dealer. Failing that try one of the motoring orgaisations. See you at the Ace.

Beautiful, never seen a 500 before, lucky man to get on of those (was looking for one but with only 15 made theyre like hens teeth). Hopefully Ill work something out and even if not its only a few (?10?) months wait until I can get it without issues. I would be willing to risk it in most circumstance but with my luck it'll decide to snap something just after the year expires and Ill be paying for some new parts on a still warrantied car!!! Looking forward to seeing your 500 at the ace.

Rgds

Unless your a part time drifter I wouldnt worry to much about breaking things. Clutch is the only weak point that Ive heard of. Get it you wont regret it! smokin

Why are you only considering the Harrop? I have a CV8 fitted with a Magnuson Magnacharger by RapidGB. It cost me £5k fitted and I am really happy with installation. Obviously it's up to you but know your options before going for the default choice and you can save yourself £2k in the process:

Here's mine:

I'm running 9psi with a verified 520 bhp/585 lbs and it goes like a bastard!

What's the warranty situation with Rapid GB? Same as Wortec?

Pretty much, RapidGB/Magnusson cover all the new bits while Vauxhall *should* cover the rest. It's always a grey area as if your gearbox explodes Vauxhall could say it was the SC that caused it. Up to 9psi there isn't much risk as the basic car is very strong but you will be made to sign a disclaimer if you want to go to 12psi without stonger pistons and rods. I've been hammering around in mine for a while now and it still feels brilliant; really solid.

Hi Wormus,

You did well with the SC for £5K, I think they have gone up to £5850 now !! Had a quote a few weeks ago.

From your picture your car looks like it is the BEST colour also (for all those silver/black is the quickest posts I have seen in the last two years). Odyssey is the best colour - LOL.

Odyssey is indeed the connoisseur's choice, thanks for the complement. I think Mark regrets charging me only £5k as it was one of the first ETC throttles he's done and it caused him a few headaches. However, he stuck to his word and the end result is fantastic. Even at £5850 it's still a bargain IMHO.

at 5850 is he maybe doing you a polished unit? Seem to recall it was around 800 quid more for that.

Erm, not sure. I do know I am saving up for the upgrade though - assuming I don't get cart'ed off to the funny farm by my parents for even thinking about it !!

The modding bug on this car is just so addictive, it should come with a big warning saying you will never be happy with only 400-450BHP and will crave more and more !!

Happy Days

I didn't know it was possible to have an "ugly" SC but there you go! My bhp at the wheels is 470hp which I think is pretty good if you compare it with the recent dyno day. From memory all the FI cars used Harrops?

Also, didn't the VXR500 run a Harrop LS112 at 6psi and that only managed 493bhp (500ps) from an LS2? I guess you just "got lucky" with yours Tiler

I got a quote off mark today, he quoted me £6000 for the supercharger kit fitted plus an extra £500 if i wanted the charger polished.

Not much less than the prettier Wortec/Harrop with the Wortec warranty.

Hello,

Sorry, have to disagree with you there - Harrop one is just over £1500 more if Magna is £6000 (CV8 VZ series). Don't get me wrong, I would love the Harrop one or the Magna but £1500 is quite alot for me (meer IT engineer).

Cheers

Will you ignorant fu**ers stop calling my SC installation ugly? I've seen the Harrop installation and it looks pretty much the same. The only difference is I haven't got the plastic engine covers on in this picture! Like a handful of others, I'm really happy with the results and other people might be too if they give it a go.

I get so sick of this shite-filled forum, nobody will accept anything that isn't Monkfish or Wortec even though there are plenty of tuning alternatives out there (procharger, magnacharger, Difillipo,Hayward & Scott etc). All the newbies are looking for informed, impartial advice and all you sheep are doing them a disservice by giving the same answer every time.

No disrespect to Monkfish or Wortec who are both excellent; shame on the rest of you!
