What is the best tape to protect the nose on a track day? Ive seen Gaffer, masking and cloth tapes mentioned, and even cling film but this must surely be too thin. Has anyone been to Oulton Park, how is this for stones?

You'll probably get less stones on the track than you would on the road, unless I'm talking bs (possibility)

Don't know the answer, I'v heard good things about armourfend (but I don't like the look of it)

I believe sticking plaster stuck tightly over the bridge of the nose helps.

Doesn't do much for the stone chipping, but works wonders for your breathing!!!!....

I use 2" wide heavy duty glass repair tape on the leading edge of the bonnet for track days. Usually not a problem (I don't tend to follow close behind people, and most race circuits have very few stones) but at Bruntingthorpe earlier in the year the tape was pock marked by the end of the day, and there were some small marks through to the paint. I think cling film would be OK at keeping dirt off but no help at all against stones.

Not found a problem at Oulton for stones; 'proper circuits' are usually OK, it's airfields [and 1 in particular] where I've seen problems. All the major stone dings I've ever had have been on the road. Given the amount of stone damage received from road driving, I can't say that track days made any difference at all.

Perhaps someone like Leven Technology could pick up the gauntlet here and design some fabricated nose cones like those I`ve seen in the USA. I think they use them there to stop the huge bugs baking onto the front of the car!!

Some of them look a bit of an eye sore but if designed properly may even be good enough for continual use?

What a car bra? Yeuch , I'd rather have the front of my car sprayed Austin Maxi brown.

Still each to their own.

last thing you want to do is put gaff tape over the fron t of the car - TVR paint likely to come of in big chunks when removed!

How about masking tape, with gaffer tape over the top of it?

I've just been on the Keevil track day and used Track Shield to protect the Tuscan. It's latex based stuff you apply with a paint roller in two different stages. The theory is that the stones then just bounce off. It's supposed to just peel off afterwards, with any remaining stuff removed with soap and water. I've only just got back so I haven't tried removing it yet, but once it get's a bit cooler outside I'll have a go.

A lot of folks on the Keevil track day were interested so I'll be reporting back on General Gassing on how it goes and hopefully have some pics to post as well.
