Went to the dealer yesterday and had a look at a GT version.....initially very impressed apart from the plasticky interior (I actually like the style inside). Anyway haven't driven one yet but the dealer told me it's rear wheel drive???? I s this correct? I thought they were fwd.

Also anyone got good / bad experiences of the new type?

All Civics are FWD. I'm struggling to convince myself to replace an old CTR with the new one, but some people do like them. It's still a good car, but i'd try an imported 4dr CTR [225PS, LSD] or an Integra Type-R [DC5] first before handing over the reddies. It looks great and has a very spacious and flat boot, so if that [and terminal understeer] is your bag then go for it. thumbup

if that dealer thinks his car is rear wheel drive i would go somewhere else!!!!

Jeez - What a plank!! If a dealer doesn't even know the absolute basics of their cars, I really do dispair!

I was faced with replacing my old CTR (EP3) with a new car, but just felt the new CTR (FN2), was a bit too compromised for me. It seems a nice car, but feels a bit too much like a marketing led product, than engineer led. Regressing to torsion beam rear suspension was shocking to me as a Honda fan, really not something I'd ever think they'd do....

Anyway, I went for a facelift Integra DC5 in the end and love it to bits. Way better than my old CTR, and I'd guess much better than the FN2 as well.... Although it looks like a coupe, it's actually a very practical hatchback with fold-down rear seats that give loads of room, (although back seat passengers moan about head room a little!!) biggrin

Another alternative is the Japanese market CTR (FD2) - these look ace in the flesh, and are a proper 4 door, 4 seater. I've not driven one, but by all accounts they're getting amazing write-ups in the press, as I'm sure you're aware wink

Agreed!

When I test drove the FN2 the salesman asked me how the traction control compared to the EP3 model ... ermmm ...

Obviously I told him he was talking out of his arse and didn't know the product he was selling ... or the product he had sold. wink



Didn't really ... just explained the EP3 didn't have traction control ...

GOOD: driving position / steering feel / braking efficiency / seemless VTEC operation / great gearbox ratios for urban use / VTEC howl / styling / 19" Rage alloys / enormous boot and useful space under rear seats

POOR: rear-window visibility (but not that much of a big deal) / driver's seat tilt-forward mechanism is a PITA / plastic dashboard marks v easily / battery runs flat in 10 days / ride quality over rough surfaces at high speed

If you're gonna get a civic either stick with/get an EP3 or get the 4 door import as others have said, if you want a more modern one - (Litchfield Honda would be a good bet there).
Personally I don't think that you would be doing yourself a favour getting the U.K. FN2 - that's just my opinion, it seems like it's been a bit compromised to me.
Alternatively go for a DC5 or if you can get hold of one a DC2.

I was working at Honda when the new civic was released and the amount of phone calls from customers with flat batteries was unblievable. I came to the conclusion that the batteries in Hondas were all crap to be honest.
