Hi guys/gals,

I was just wondering if anyone here outsources CNCing to cheaper parts of the world. Looking at quite small run sizes, say 200-1000 units of CNC'd ally (parts circa 100mmx60mm) 3axis required, maybe 5 on a couple of parts. If anyone has any leads I'd be interested in pricing this up as an option smile

Kindest,

Stu

Our company tried this, outsourcing to South Korea. It was alot cheaper but tolerances were way out and ended up in the recycle bin!

Malh,

That is very surprising to have them out of tolerance, South Korea is a pretty darn hi-tech place from what I have seen. Definitely a shame. FWIW what sort of tolerances were you after?

Golf,

OK, lets talk. I'll send you an email in a bit smile

They were for fibre optic connector parts which have to have tight tolerances, half a thou in places.

Hi stu,

I work for a fastener distributor that sources turned parts from UK, Europe and Taiwan. We have an annual spend of around £5,000,000 on turned parts, that we supply into the electronics, automotive and white goods sectors

For small batch runs I can put you in touch with a guy who we use professionally, and I go to LM with.

He has a company in Mid wales with a dozen or so CNC multi axis,

If you want to mail me drawings/quantities etc, I will pass them on to him, and he can quote you directly

Cheers

Karussell

We run two companies in the south UK, one = mill/turn shop and one small to large qty turning shop. One of our main customers, who has been a strong customer for 18 years has been using china over the last year, but it has only taken 2 months to stop.

They were saying to us that their problem layed with quality issues. Price is very competitive, but a component came over incorrect and took them 13 weeks for the NCR to be completed and parts to be replaced. We are currently modding a large ally job as there was an issue change, and they just couldnt send it back.
They do produce decent parts, at a good price, but communication is a nightmare and they are only human also, they do make mistakes.

Another one of our customers started going to italy, but he said to me the chance just to get in a car and bring a drawing to our factory and discuss development of a component and us to make it is invalubale. Especially for time like issue changes.

I think there is so many pro's and con's, but then i would say that..lol
