Went to buy a new laptop today from Dell. Quote from site was £2100, then went to the employee discount area (cause contract to EDS), and the price including a 10% was £2400 (couldn't figure that out at all). Rang up, and got put through to some indian dude, said to him, want to talk to someone in the UK. Got put through to a bloke, who works in trying to win back business for Dell. Got the laptop for £1499! Ok, yeah, it is a bit of an expensive laptop, BUT, if anyone is looking around for a laptop, can ask this bloke for a quote, and see how you go. I couldn't believe the price difference, especially if you were joe punter.

Yeah, dell is one of those places that if you can put up with the constant death by call centre you can badger a good deal. We get all our stuff from dell and I don't think we've ever paid more than 60% advertised list price.

Hi Raggyman,

Sorry to ask, when you got your replacement HSV gearknob did you get the top bit of gearshaft ?? If you still have the factory shafter or one spare do you fancy selling it to me - I assume it is the shorter HSV shaft.

Cheers

OK - sounds good What about a M1330 with 2gb of memory, red LED screen, and 250gb HDD - all the rest standard? Website quotes 849 quid, but it'd be cool if anything else can come off that one

Hey mate...
Well still using the old stick, with a bit of rubber tubing in there to make it hold the new knob, although, when i go back home to oz going to get my old man to make up a completely new stick for me, to take the new knob. What we were going to do is reuse the base part of it, although, think that we could get the new one made up no worries. Did you want me to get one made up for you, to take the new momo gear knob? To make one up with the new momo gear knob would be easier, than coming up with a design to take the holden knob.

I would make it up myself here, but don't have all the gear here..

Cheers
Jace

Great idea and hate to be the bearer of bad news, but wouldn't this be 'Obtaining property by deception'?????

I certainly wouldn't be advertising the fact on a public forum anyway eek

Hi Jace,

Thank for you the offer but I have a HSV replica at the moment from Aus (ebay purchase), only problem is that it is a solid piece of metal rather than the two sections with black sealant to deaden it. Would be nice to replace with the proper item but can't be bothered getting one from JHP.

Just gets a little noisy as solid metal all the way down - hence by other post last week with shifter plate seals/gaskets - will probably swap back to the factory 1" longer shifter and gearknob (I bought a spare from Aus especially for this experiment).

Where are all the scrapped VXR's in the UK ??

Thanks anyway
Steven

Going to have it made up to be exactly the same, including the little rubber bit to seperate the two.

Hello Jace,

Sounds like a good idea, bit like the chap in the US whom does the top shaft with the standard thread on it (think his is solid metal though).

TBH I have happy with the factory ali and leather knob though the fitting is a little odd relying on silicon to make the seal and stop addtitional noise etc. Will probably just stick factory one back on as already did that with additional dynamat.

Just to check you are going to make the very top section with the thread or just a hole/slot for the small momo screw, then like the factory have a wider shaft section which the square mounting plate and bolt holes, then seal the two parts together like the factory one ?? If so, I am very impressed with yours and your Father's manufacturing, well done.

Thanks
Steven

Yeah, to be honest, to make a new one is going to be the easiest option. Yeah, my old man is pretty good when it comes to makin stuff like that. I tinkered with computers instead of spending all my time in the shed, although, do know how to weld, but haven't done if for ages. When you think about it, the manufacture of it isn't that difficult if you have all the goodies. First off, cut the bit of sheet metal to the right size, drill a couple of holes, (bottom one is just a cut in. Heat it up, and bend it in the vice. One piece of pipe, and a one piece of rod. Thread the rod, and put a washer that will sit on top of the rubber but not touch the pipe. Get a small circlular cutter, drill size same as pipe, the outer the same as inner diameter of pipe. Put it together, and weld another washer on the bottom, and it is all done..
