A friend is working on one at the minute, and needs to remove the crank bolt.

And he is struggling. Tried heating it with a mapp gas blowtorch, 3/4 drive socket and breaker bar...to no avail.

Hasnt tried the starter motor....but says it would be very very difficult to do this method.

Is there any possibility its a left hand thread ? Anyone any previous experience ?

needs to replace crank oil seal, so it has to come off.

And just found on some Alfa forums. It is a left hand thread frown Havent heard a latest update yet though....last news was that when trying anti-clockwise...something did move a bit.
Which with the recent information...could be a bad thing.

Factory torque specs are something like 280Nm for a 19mm socket !!!!!!

Buy a replacement part at the dealer (he'll need it anyway) and that will say if it's LH thread or not. Don't do anything until you know this.

It may well be Loctited in but heat may ruin the crank, so it ay well be best to grind off the bolt head then use an easi-out to remove it. That's what I had to do for a sump plug that simply would not budge.
