Recently I got an Asus EEE, which continues to impress me.

This is my first Linux experience, although many years ago I did use Solaris Unix.

I'd like to put a free version of Linux on an older laptop for the wife to use for Internet / Email etc.

Do any free Linux distributions have an "easy mode" like the version of Xandros shipped with the Asus EEE as my wife really likes the simplicity of the interface.

Thanks

Simon

The standard answer is Ubuntu. Like Xandros it's based on Debian (I think Xandros is Debian based?!? anyone?), it can run from CD, easy to use, active support forums.

I've also heard good things about the latest Fedora release, but I haven't tried it (Bad memories of .rpm based distros)

if she is familiar with windows - then something like ubuntu would be easier enough - has firefox on it etc, and the menu's are intuitive for windows users
