Ive defended Vista a few times on here before but i take back every word i said about it, its f**cking shite! furious

Last night i turned of my machine and it began to install 6 updates, fine i thought.. Went to turn it on again tonight and it will no longer boot up into Windows It just sits on 'Configuring updates' which i have left it doing for 2 hours. I then reset it and now it wont even get that far, it wont boot into safe mode with or without command prompt so it appears to be properly buggered, all from a Microsoft update. Thanks Bill you t**ser!

Just running the repair now which failed first time round, fingers crossed it works this time otherwise its going to be a lot of hastle to get back all my data. frown

I had trouble with the update's when I had them set totally to auto, now I have to it set to the one where it informs you when theres new updates and you start it yourself, works much better.

Hope your repair works ok

Sounds more like faulty hardware to me.

But we all appreciate you guinea pigs/paying testers for all your fault finding experiences. By the time SP2 comes out it should be fine. thumbup

Unless history is anything to go by smile

BTW: I wonder how people on dial-up are supposed to survive Vista?

That's the problem right there, you should have left for at least 5 hours hehe

Both me and my housemate are huge geeks and microsoft haters (we ran a company based on opensource applications) yet both have been running Vista for months without issue. To me, it's just XP with some nice pretty UI polish.
