Has anyone had no aircon or fan activity?

I started my car last night outside the office, only 3L of fuel left, no fan (no speed lights even when moving the dial) and no air-con (the temperature light was on and would increase with the dial but the air-con light wouldn't come on by pressing the dial).

Anyway - I thought it could have been an in-built intelligence that killed the fuel sapping air-con when the tank was low, filled up the car and set off again but still no activity. At this point I start thinking that maybe a fuse had blown (strange for both the fan and the air-con to not come on). 20 miles later after giving up playing with the controls it springs back into life of its own accord! (Thankfully - the outside temp guage was reading 36degC and I was starting to melt).

Feature or fault?

Thanks

Of course it's a feature, TVRs don't have faults!

I've had the fan problem a couple of times (I haven't got ac) but it hasn't lasted as long as yours.

Liked your idea that TVR would have thought to automatically shut the ac off when the fuel was low! Still laughing now!

It kind of threw me a little bit, I'd only just got used to the fact that the fan cuts out for a short period of time after the temp control is changed and then this happened.....

.... its pretty difficult trying to sort these things out on the move, the steering is so quick that you end up 'snakeing' all over the place - I had to pull over and try and get it working. Then it just kicked in on its own about 15 mins later!

By the way, anyone out their planning on ordering a T350C without air-con - DON'T. I know we've had some freakishly hot weather over the past few days but even taking that into consideration it was as hot as hell! It was starting to get uncomfortable changing gears...

(not furious - just v.hot!)

I understand the boys from Blackpool are supplying a seagull, on a piece of string, to increase the cabin airflow

When the fan is switched off the air con will not turn on as it can't operate without the fan running.....

....I'm sure you tried this but is your fan switched on, press in the fan switch toggles between on and off.

I think you may find it's just turned off.

Fish - thanks for the response. I tried all sorts including switching in and out the fan speed control. When it switched on of its own accord about 10 mins later I kind of guessed it was a gremlin.

Very strange - been OK since as well.

I second that! A t350C in this weather is no fun at all without air con. Very, very hot indeed especailly stuck in traffic for an hour.

As I've mentioned on other threads, my air con just doesn't cut it when the weather is hot. It isn't just the chilling, but also the power of the fan. The only way to cool myself down (sort of) is to close all cold vents except the drivers one, even then the air flow is pretty feable even when the fan is on full.

I'm very interested in whether this is a fault or that the air con has been specified to low for the heat disipation requirement for the T350C cabin.

Any news on the proposed 'upgrade' appreciated.

Thanks

Tim

Hi there

I had this problem. It actually came in two batches:

1) I was told the electonic control unit for the heating/fan system had blown up. It was duly replaced.

2) Picked the car up having had it replaced. Worked fine. got the car home. Next time i took it out... guess what! Yep, no fan or anything else. This time it was actually a loose connection which it might be worth you fiddling with before you go back to the dealer. In the passenger footwell under the glove box, there is a rectangular carpeted box. This cover hinges back if you tug at it and there's a load of cabling underneath. Have a wiggle (I think the heater controller cable connector is one of the larger ones) and see if it springs back to life....
