So Mrs Olf and I often wake up on a Saturday thinking how nice it would be to have someone else cook breakfast for us. Unfortunately we draw a blank on this one.

I'm a traditional English breakfast type chap. I'm looking for quality (as well as quantity), so good bangers, free range eggs etc.

She's a girly, left wing, lettuce muncher so pancakes with fresh fruit kind of thing.

Where would you suggest within a say a 15 min walk of Reading town centre (the walk is important!).

They also need to be child friendly.

Thanks in advance

I go to the Gorge Cafe when I need a hangover cure. Good fry up, no idea if they sell anything else (I'm usually struggling when ever I go there).

Its near Caversham Bridge next door to the BP garage, opposite the big hotel. Probably more like a 20 minute walk from town along the Caversham Rd, or along the river from Reading bridge.

OKay thanks. I have had a rec for that before. it's particularly popular with ex Reading students I believe.

It's a little to far for us unfortunately.

Theres a free car park across the road by the hotel if you need a stroll down the river to work up an appetite wink

My wife might think it is too close to the Merc garage smile

Okay we'll give it a go, at least until we find the perfect cafe in walking distance from our house with the Prince of Wales' best bangers on the menu.

Some hope.

Wetherspoons is always a good bet, not sure about them all being child friendly with all them drunk old boys propping up the bar...

I assume you don't mean the PoW in Caversham. Awful pub since the last landlord took over and brought his rent-a-mob with him.

I meant Duchy Originals! Sheesh.

Not the best bangers available but reliable.

I recommend Tootsies in the Oracle. I make it conditional with the wife if we go shopping, that we stop here for breakfast. Try it you won't be disappointed and they are family friendly which is great.

Tootsies Big Breakfast £8.50
smoked back bacon, two free range eggs, two Cumberland
sausages, hash browns, baked beans, grilled tomato, grilled
field mushrooms, toast, your choice of fruit juice
and tea or coffee

or

Classic Eggs Benedict £5.95
two poached free range eggs with smoked back bacon,
on an English muffin with hollandaise sauce

Cheers,
Jon

The Gorge for a proper breakfast. There is nowhere even close in Reading.

Can't believe that about the Art of Siam. Used to go there and loved the food.....
