IS it earthed seperately at all??
Have had the sender out and seems to work ok out the tank, but feels like it is magnetised to the sides of the tank, quite bizarre.
Was wondering if a separate earth some where is broken which is causing the tank to hold a magnetic charge??

Answers PLZ??

I don't think magnetism and earthing are related, at least not in this context. A magnet works because its molcules are aligned. You can connect a magnet to an electrical earth but it will have no effect on the molecules and it will still be magnetic. (unless it's an elctromagnet!)

I think on the S there is a separate earth link from the tank to the chassis, this can become detached. There may be a similar arrangement on the V8S MkII (aka Griffith)

I know what your saying S1, but like a screwdriver sometimes will get charged up to hold a magnetic charge hence screws etc are attracted to it.
Has this happened to my Tank,To discharge it the earth needs to be good.
Or is it a problem maybe that the sender when attached to the tank is somehow faulty and the whole tank is become live as there is a broken earth.
I am more of an AC main than DC somewhat

The tank is ally. Ally is not magnetic. The sender may be catching on an internal baffle.

Strewth BB..... Do you think I spend my time sticking my head in the fuel tank?

No idea. The float/arm has to move quite a way to track the level and there are internal baffles to help strengthen the tank and prevent surge. Put 2 and 2 together and you get a potential cause. Could also be catching on the tank sides.

I happen to have a dentist's mirror. Do you think it would work if I scanned it, mailed it to you and you printed it out?

Right, sorted it on Friday evening, Been working since due to thiunder storms so had avery low TVR driving weekend
Borrowed one of The GF mirrors and looked in the tank and saw that as SH said there are some strengthing/Baffles inside.
These are basically in line with the Straps that hold trhe Tank.
So i have bent the float wire so it doesnt catch here and it seems to work ok

Slightly confused though how it suddenly didnt work and was catching on there. Can only think it might have been changed while at the garage being repaired??which i cant see why as there was no damage there in my little of road excursion
