Alonso tops test in last year's chassis against the other teams running their new chassis...

I wonder how much different in speed the new regs have made the new chassis for 08, and if that was the real factor behind Alonso topping the charts, or maybe Renault were showboating for PR sake.

Either way, I can not wait to see what Alonso can do in the new chassis as it looks very much like he's back into his comfort zone, and despite what many on here may think of the guy, if he's in the 'zone' and Renault are able to give him a stonking good car he's going to be hard to beat as he has so much to prove to all the 'red top' followers of F1.

As to the real followers of the sport, he's got nothing to prove to me as you don't become back-to-back double champion by luck or chance, especially when you are up against MS in a Ferrari smile

Come on Renault, kick some corporate ass again this year...

More than likely. Can you imagine the wobbly he'd throw if he hadn't been quickest? LOL...

Also, if running in an '07 car, does that mean he had traction control, while everyone else gets used to running without it? Just a thought.

FA has one thing on his mind this year - to kick McMerc and LH ass.

He will be nice to the fast team given that he wants to drive for them one day..

And there's nothing like sounding whooping the current incumbents of the job you want to increase your stock with a potential employer.

I think it's a false dawn. But I do think he'll be back stronger than ever this year. Unless Piquet proves to be a sensation of course...

I don't know about the "fast team".
With regard to Ferrari, however, it will be most interesting this year to see what happens if and when Alonso has the chance to baulk a McLaren in order to benefit the Maranello Moaners. And if he did do that, would Mosley, er, I mean the stewards, penalise him for "acts prejudicial to a fair competition"? rolleyes

That made me smile! The tiny corporation that is Nissan Renault against those corporate Force India and Super Aguri guys.

Renault are no less corporate than any other team in the pit lane when it comes down to it. They just like to paint themselves as the 'small guy' against the Mclaren/Ferrari oppression.

My point was more to the point that Renault tend to deliver results with a much smaller workforce than the other two - so it shows that having the massive mobile skyscraper that McLaren have or far too much FIA influence such as Ferrari still doesn't secure the championship.

Quality not quantity is best and I think Renault are pretty good at that.

Given that Renault have just been found JUST as guilty as McL for using other teams' data AND let off without a blemish. . .

I would hazard a guess that "little ol' Renault" have a major pull with that other French crowd the FIA.

Far too much influence.
Corkscrew bend past participle etc. arrange amend to read well known english expression of opinion.

The only positive point is the third French party is no longer playing so stitch ups will be harder to concoct.

Ah yes, beating Schumacher in the 2005 Ferrari. What a good car and tyre combination that was.

If you can find them its the times over a decent run that actually means something. From what Ive read, Mclaren and Ferrari aren't chasing times and seem able to do their laptimes consistently during 8-12 lap runs, whereas the Renaults etc were a good second or more slower per lap on their equivalent stints, and as suspected Alonso's quick lap was on a 3 lap blast right at the end of the day so likely very light with new tyres.
