Hi everyone.
There is a SYLVA Phoenix on fleabay as I write which is still on the donor cars logbook, in this case an Escort.
The seller says the car passed MOT in December, which must have been computerised. Presumably the seller manages to tax it, but surely it would say FORD ESCORT on the disc.
If this is legal, ( surely not) then why don't I buy an old Sierra and use the V5 on the Phoenix I am building.
It does have some Sierra bits, if only the diff, driveshafts etc.
Would any insurance policy issued on the SYLVA be valid?
Geoff.

Not legal, and that's exactly the reason my car is not on the road. He'll probably need an SVA unless he can convince the DVLA that it was built before the SVA regs came in, and he will need proof that the car was used on the road before 1997.

Computerised MOT ? All vehicle registrations are kept on a database so now when you go for an MOT all the cars details come up on the MOT testers screen, if for example a Westfield turns up and it comes up Escort on the data base then alarm bells should I would have thought started ringing in the testers ears.

I don't think I'm missing anything here, if says Escort on the log book then that's what it should be, a Ford escort.

I suspect the MOT tester in this case has put himself in a potential dodgy position as he knew it wasn't an escort when he issued the ticket, unless of course he was presented with an escort to test ?

Personally I would value any such car as at best an unfinished project requiring SVA and factor in the costs required to get it through an SVA unless of course it going to be a track car only.

as this car got an mot in december its impossible that an escort was presented to the tester.

car is sold now to somebody outside UK. so no sva necessary as it will be possible to registrate it there as it is.

have you ever seen the log-books of some cobras? often says "ford cortina", even "citroen 2CV"...only to get an old registration..
