Hi all, would anyone care to comment on the gap between private, and dealer advertised, M12's which seems to be 10-12K? I'd expect a £5K gap and not that large.

Tell me about it, I'm looking at buying one at the moment, and can't believe some of the price differences that are out there at the dealers.
They don't seem to be singing from the same hymn sheet, i know they all have there overheads, and they all say that they are the longest established dealer in the country, but who gives a damn, as long as you get good service at a reasonable price, that's all we are after.
I'd rather buy privately and get the car inspected, maybe pay for a warranty, if not, with the money saved i have enough in the bank to fix most problems, should they occur.
Anyway, on with the search.

Yes. Private does seem to be the way to go at the moment.

Yes, totally noticed the same during my ongoing quest for the right Noble.

There seem to be a few dealers, one in particular (naming no names), who are desperately trying to keep the Noble prices at an artificially inflated level. Bizarrely confused they don’t seem to recognise that the private sale market totally undermines this and consequently they aren't shifting.

Private all the way I say!!

Or it could be said private sales this time of year are more depressed, as generally the need to sell is greater, also fewer buyers around for this type of car at this time of year.
Wait till spring comes, prices firm up and cars dont hang around..seen it happen the last four years.

Interesting. No doubt demand for Nobles is seasonal but really can't see some of those prices out there being achieved, especially given the time they've been hanging about for. As you say time will tell, and when I do come to own one, no doubt I'll be singing a similar tune... whistle

Dealers are probably expecting to be chipped down a load, and prepping a noble properly can be expensive not that I expect many to do that if they can help it. Also it may reflect how long the stock has hung around so its costing them loads to finance and they may not have touched the price for a few months! Not all buyers research on pistonheads...

Have a look on autotrader, there are two cars, same colour, same year, one has 10K more miles than the other,( it doesn't say in the ad. but I asked ), and one has a stage 4 upgrade, but is it worth £8K extra. Surely not.
And the one that is 8K extra will not budge on price, trouble is I know how much he paid for the car, someone on here sold it to him, just wish I had been in a better position when it was for sale privately.

I think Alex has got it right

I bought mine last spring , with the intention of getting one of the "January sale" bargains.

Due to work , I never got time to look seriously until March , and then it was too late.
The prices firm up as everyone starts looking for the summer season.

If you can find the right Car, the next 6 weeks is the time to buy IMHO.

Perhaps I'm delusional, but good cars will sell back in season for near the asking price.

Before you ask , I'm not selling mine and have no vested interest in talking the market up , just commenting on what I've seen the last two years..

I agree best looking private.
I bought my M400 in December which was
3K to 4K cheaper than the dealers wanted.
Mine had 5700 miles on the clock where as the dealers
had 12000 to 15000 miles on.
Also the dealers would not move on price.

I had a full RAC inspection only £235.00

So far so good, i'm keeping all my fingers crossed.
By the way the GTO 3R at Christopher Neal in
Northwich has been there
for about 6/7 months & at the same price.

I think the car they have now is another one, not the one they had a few months ago.

Come on, someone must have one they are wanting to get shot of.
Have just got a mate to have a look at the one at the tvr centre in barnet, terrible state, and it has had paint at some time, with only 6K miles on it as well.
In the guys defence, he is selling it on a commission basis for a customer, so not going to prep before sold, but having said that, it still should be in a better condition having only covered 6k miles.

I realise that there are cars for sale, but like all of us, I have certain requirements and tastes.
I'm after a 3R, and will look at anything with reasonable mileage/good service history, it must be silver, either shade.
As for the ones at Mole Valley, I already have a mortgage, I don't wish to take out another. wobble

6K is plenty enough miles to warrant some paint to the front clam at least.
Unless they're driven on perfect roads like a complete jessie the paint chips really easily.

Sold to dealer in november for £30k, same week advertised on their site for £38k. That is some mark-up! To be fair though it still has not sold
