Following on my last thread about printing on disk, the HP C5280 arrived today bounce

It came with Roxio Express Labeler 3.2 and apparently you have to use this to print on disks, which seems a bit odd. Anyway, the problem is that it's rather limited for typography and uses templates with cheesy designs. All text is curved, for example. I can prepare the label how I want it somewhere else and then import it as a background (I think) but I just wondered if anyone knew of any other options?

Previously, when making labels, I'd just use a text box in Word, place it in exactly the right place on the page, and make the label from there. Do you think that 'paper and string' approach will work for disk printing?

Hi John,

You could try Acoustica CD/DVD Label Maker - free trial here : http://www.acoustica.com/cd-label-maker/index.htm

Website says that it is capable of printing direct to your printer.

I found it recently to use it with my Epson printer, better than the Epson Print CD (which isn't keen on Vista).

If you like it, it'll hardly break the bank at just over a tenner.

Thanks Simon, that seems to have more options. Can't see how to get it to print up to the hole though - is that part of the upgrade?

Not as far as I know, but I'm using registered version - should be same, it's just a key.

Have you selected the correct media?

HP Photosmart 5280 is listed twice, once for "full face printable" the other as just "printable".

I did notice that if I select my printer, Epson R300 "Full Face" it has a smaller hole.

Is the 5280 capable of printing right up to the hole - the Epson can.

Might be worth trying Epson paper setting, with HP 5280 driver etc.

lightscribe media and burner is another option, no need for a paper stick on label that can come unpeeled at some time in the future frown

I'm using (or will use) white faced disks. The whole point of the 5280 is on-body printing, for the 'pro' look. Any old printer can print sticky labels!
