Am lookuing for a 2005 a4 sline diesel & bit confused on engine/ four wheel drive???
I am looking at 2 (140ps) (dont think i can afford 170ps) but some of them seem to have twin exhaust (one either side?) is that aftermarket?
Also i have seen a 2.5, what ps are they.are they petrol or diesel? & also was it four wheel drive (i think it was 2005 as well?)
Before i buy i just want to make sure i am getting the right engine!

i am pretty sure the 2.5 will be a B6 and not a current B7 car, so its likely to be a last of the line model. if its a quattro they where 180, sometimes quoted as 177. If you are interested in tuning the 2.0 unit is incredibly strong, i believe they are launching a 207bhp variant soon as well on the same 2.0tdi lump. Again if you are going for the higher output variant i would point you towards a quattro.

I think it's that the 170 has one exhaust each side, 140 has two on the left..?

And both can be had with quattro - if you're a keen driver then the 2 wheel drive cars are prone to a fair bit of wheelspin (keeps the ESP busy) and fairly frequent front tyre replacements.

quattro definitely not needed in A4 140 guise - I'm running round in a 140 A3 Q and it saps too much power

also 10mpg down on my FWD 140 A3
