Hi all - Need some advice from those who have fitted the Mod wise boot opening gizmo

Fitted the Microswith successfully in the mechanism.

Tapped the power into the interior circuit…. fine

Now – the problem.
When the reed switch is brought near the magnet it blow the fuse near the interior light power tap and does nothing with the boot solenoid

My solenoid connector is as follows:

On the power side is Black and Blue, On the solenoid side is Red and Blue.

The cables from the module are scotched black to black and Red to red (on the other side of the connector)

What seems to be the problem? – Blowing the fuse is not healthy to me.

Can anyone help?

This may sound odd, but have you connected the mod-wise kit the correct way round to the boot opening actuator. The colours on my car when I fitted it where bl**dy usless, so I tried it two ways round and one worked fine. BTW: you know if you have it the correct way, as one way the boot opens and the other way it did not.

However I do not know why he fuse is blowing, it sounds quite odd, like there is more power on that wire than there should be. Did you "tap" the right power feed in the door opening?

Sorry that this is no real help and proberbly just bad guesses.

My experiences on the kit can be read here:

www.tvrcc-surrey.co.uk

Selext Other on the menu and you should see it in a short list of things.

Have you called/mailed David at mod-wise he is very helpful.

Just trying to fit this.

Where is the boot opening solenoid in the Chimaera? Is it directly below the latch? Before ripping back the carpet I want to make sure. It feels like there's a panel over the top of it even if I do peel the carpet back.

There is a panel over it, rear offside side in boot small opening, under carpet where you can get at wires and connector, and also taped the reed switch to back of bodywork at this point and works OK, all done yesterday sent contact number to your profile if you want any info as it is fresh in my mind.

Fitted to 98 Chimaera hope the following helps. In boot I found solonoid was covered with a panel. To right of boot in position where Chimaera badge is fitted to body work on other side was a cut out hole, carpet had to be pulled up quite far to get to it, there located the connector for the boot solonoid, two cables in (red leading to black(solonoid end) & blue to red and blue(solonoid side) new black connected to red, and red connected to blue.

Picture of switch behind passenger seat below which may help.

I taped the reed switch to bodywork where i found the connector for the solonoid.

Once up and working I cut the red wire going off to the switch in passenger side, thread it through the hole for the badge, up to the hole below the boot lock and then over to the opening for the solonoid connector, and re connected it. The metal coathanger being my most flexible tool. I found that the connectors on the wiring would not pull through behind the panel very restricted space.

Hope that helps, any further info give me a call.

It does work and well worth the effort.

Cheers.Steve Parker

Eventually got there with the pics, and have edited all the edited messages, may have broken a record there.

Well

Looks like the question has been answered.

Careful you get the wires round the right way though as you will blow the inline fuse the is with the reed switch and make the solenoid try and work backwards!
