Variable valve solenoid on 1.8 S40

Bought a 1.8 S40 yesterday ,got it halfway home(stopped for petrol) and the things developed a rattle on idle from what turns out to be the variable valve solenoid.Done a bit of digging about and one thing i read was the vernier pulley is likely to be the main problem.
Obviously I've contacted the dealer i bought it from,I just want to get all the correct info before he starts trying to fob me off.
Anyone else this had problem.

yes,sounds like a metalic chatter of gears,pulses in and out about every three seconds,will require complete vvt pulley fitting and a oil and filter change,hope dealer will replace-requires main dealer to fit,special tools are req to set up.
