I gather the 160hp claimed output of the 2.8 Colgone V6 is rather optimisitc, is it possible to remap the car to that sort of output with standard hardware? I know the later 2.9s can often be remapped to great effect, but can you get similar gains from the 2.8?

which version are you asking about as 2.8 cologne engines came with mechanical(capri/xr4i) and electronic injection(scorpio/XR4x4,etc)?

So far as I know, the 2.8/2.9 were always claimed as 150bhp. If there is nothing available (and I doubt whether it would liberate much more power in an engine that old) there is is always the 3rd party engine management unit such as the Megasquirt.

If you are looking for info about tuning the 2.8/2.9 that is in the TVR S Series, might be worth dropping a line to http://www.guglielmimotorsport.co.uk

As I guess that whilst the TVR uses the 2.8 and 2.9 plant and a ford gearbox when it came to tuning at the factory there where some more specific work they would have performed on it.

Have you tried the TVRCC forums? also searching on here as the question has probably been asked before

TVRCC is a good point.....

It's for the electronic fuel injection variant, I believe used in the Capri.

To be honest, I think I'm now a 2.9 convert (and I know people like Austec work wonders on them with a piggy-back ECU).

2.8 Efi is a rare engine compared to later 2.9 Efi and earlier 2.8 K-Jetronic mechanical injection, the 2.8k was used in the Capri and RWD XR4i`s as well as TVR S1, this engine can`t be remapped/chipped, and is costly to modify in a BHP per £££ ratio. The daddy of the cologne familly is of course the 2.9 24v unit fitted to Scorpio`s between 91 and 98, around 190bhp as standard and will map to around 210, you would have to adapt it to take a manual gearbox of course.

Yep, was surprised how much quicker the 2.9 car felt with both in standard form. I suspect in reality the difference (nearly 20 years down the line) is more than the claimed 8bhp difference.

For some reason Ford always claimed 150 bhp for Granadas, but 160 bhp for Capris. I'm surprised the exhaust was that more efficient, perhaps the Capris had the top tolerance engines.
