Hi, I know the auto versions of the 3.0TDI and the 1.8 will be due mid/late summer but not sure about the S5.

Like he said.

Audi aren't giving anything away on that one.

What we've all been talking about is why?

They've had tiptronic available for both these engines for yonks, so we're putting two and two together and getting 5 and reckon the new DSG for north-south mounted high torque motors may be making a debut on this later in the year... Maybe...

Otherwise we can't work out why at launch they didn't offer tiptronic.

I'd have sold many more S5 and 3.0TDi quattro if auto was available before now.

I've also been given the shrug by my dealer on this one. It's a shame as when I tested the S5, I really felt that it could do with a decent auto (DSG even better) as it fitted the "cruiser" bill more than anything else.

I understood the A5 3.0TDi quattro will have a 'conventional' automatic gearbox?

Hopefully flappy paddles will not be standard.

Why would you hope that they wouldn't be? I find them great on my A8 4.2

I note that both the S5 and A5 3.0TDi quattro are now offered with Tiptronic automatic transmission.

This must have been a very recent change, as there are still inconsistencies in the spec. brocuhures.

But a welcome addition to the A5 line up!
