Hi folks,

I'm sure this has been asked countless times but I've searched to no real avail.

Basically I've got the chap coming around tomorrow to install sky+ (upgrading from regular sky digital).
I'm wondering if there's any way of recording / transferring recorded content to PC via either XP or Vista Ultimate? Or can a DVD recorder be used if not?

I doubt there is as I'm sure it'll be encrypted to death, but if there is a way I'd like to be able to as I'm just getting the last of the home entertainment type stuff sorted in the next few days.

Cheers,
stu

You can record to DVD and then capture the DVD on your computer. It's simple enough. Or, if you have a video capture card on the computer you could record directly from the sky+ box.

In practice however, it is far easier to slap a bigger HD into the sky+ unit and just keep what you want to keep for as long as you want to keep it. Everything is repeated anyhow.

No, there is no way of getting the recorded data off the Skybox and playing it on a PC as it is stored with the broadcast encryption which has never been broken.

As Jubal says you can transcode the output using a video capture card.

A Slingbox would be an alternative to transcoding.

Have a look here and elsewhere in their forums.

Quick glance suggests that some of it might be possible but depends on the channel amongst other things.

Each individual program can have a flag against it which says if it can be copied or not. This depends on the contract Sky has with the program maker.

Yep. If it can't be copied then it has a "C" in the info banner (e.g. Box Office, most Movies)
