Which would you suggest for hillclimbing and sprinting?

weber, definately. For a start all competitive hillclimbers run webers, check out the paddock. Consider using a nice long maniflow inlet for more torque.

For outright power the Weber will give more than the SU(s).When we changed from the 1.75 HIF44 to a 45 Weber, with no other changes , it was worth around 8 bhp at 8k rpm.
However from the pics you have previously shown of the shell build you may be using the mini on the road (and entering sprints/hillclimbs in the modified roadgoing class)In that case the Weber will be pretty agricultural, all noise and smell and the SU(s) easier to live with.If your budget and sensibilities will stretch to it , go for the Weber but as you are probably starting a long and expensive learning curve it might be better to start with the SU and then upgrade to the Weber at the next development step.

Yes, initially the car may be driven to the event... I may make allowence for a weber by adding a box, but run twins for the moment...

You'll still be able to drive the car to the event with a Weber fitted. Set up properly they'll still pass emissions and have adequate mpg (on a tuned car). Might need some earplugs...hehe

I agree, webber is fine for driving to the event. In my experience a webber 45 is much more driveable than twins, but it depends on the cam, i'm running a 296 but using a 286 the twins might be the better choice. Whats your engine spec?

At the moment I dont have an engine. The reason I am asking now is due to me wanting to decide whether I want to do bulkhead mods...

I run a weber 45 in my mini to and from sprints no problem. The only thing is that you must have the bulck head moded to fit the weber (you can get inlet manifolds to fit a weber with no mods but they flow badly). The SUs will fit with no mods. I have also found SU tend to nead more looking after then my weber.
