Servicing - Dealership or Specialist?

Just bought my first TVR (99(T)) and it's due it's 18k service.
No warranty left so I am unsure between a dealership and a specialist.
The dealership said getting it done there will help re-sale value, they service to TVR approved standards, etc etc.
The specialists say there name is worth more than a dealership and it's what people look for. They're enthusiasts and really know what they are doing etc etc.
No real difference in price so I'd gladly welcome any suggestions.

It's the old perenial subject this...dealer, specialist, DIY etc, If you think you might sell it in a year or so, your average punter would prefer to see dealer stamps, but if it was going to anyone from here, then seeing Guglielmi's stamp would be as good as any dealer.

I'd say it is more important to find somebody you get on with and trust, rather than worrying whether they are dealer or specialist. I haven't had any direct dealings with TMS but they seem to be generally well liked. Luckily you're in a TVR hot spot and there are loads of TVR dealers/specialists within reach.

Indeed .. of all the dealers TMS seem to be among the most liked (there are some dreadful ones out there) .. so if you're after the dealer stamp but actually want the car to be worked on properly then they would appear to be a safe bet for you.
Don't know anyone who has their car serviced at Guglielmi so can't comment there.
Colin Blowers in Hinckley also worth a look .. there service bit is called Autotune i think.
Further affield you have Dave Batty .. certainly very well liked and always get top marks on here (he'd be my fave if distance no problem).

I thought the main point of independents was that they were supposed to be cheaper? Some TVR dealers are good, others less so, but if yours is a good one and they're same price as an indy, I'd keep it TVR.

For me, the principle point of using an independent is that you know that you're not getting some YTS boy (I know, showing my age - modern apprentice now isn't it?) working on your car. The price differentials are narrowing now, but I know that the price I pay goes in to the work on the car and the advice I get, and not in to a heavy overhead to keep the showroom looking pretty.
Again, not to say that all dealers are the same, and I've heard good stuff about TMS, but independent it is for me.

I think that is a little unfair. Unless 'YOPS' (I think that is the modern term) are given a chance and supervised sufficiently (the crucial point), independants will not grow. More importantly valuable experience would not be passed on - dealer service manuals and classroom teaching is not the same!
I would like to think that the independants would have a better grade of trained monkeys than the large dealers (those probably really want to be sales managers rather than mechanics). So I would have no prejudice against a YOP - there will be good and bad at independant or dealer.
Just my 2p worth.

If youre up t'north, go with Joospeed. If darn souf, David Batty. I live in SE London and David services my Tuscan and did my Chimaera.
I will pay a visit to Joolz for some nitron shocks shortly (subject to Joolz availability). Either way, Id have absolute trust in either. Counless PHeaders cant be wrong.
And any prospective purchaser of your car will recognise the pedigree if he's done his homework...

I think what rude was trying to say is that independants generally don't have YTS working for them, they can't afford to have things go wrong, and probably don't want to spend the time supervising either (time is money etc)
Delaers : they do have YTS type bods there, certainly at the one I worked at, I NEVER gave away any of my information to the little scrotes, indeed exactly the opposite - I told them a load of duff info to see just how stupid they were, the ones that saw through it earned my respect however they were very few a far between unfortunately. I think you'll find that most good techies at dealers become disillusioned and leave to set up their own places, hence the multitude of good indies out there now .. it's the future of TVR
