That engine/motor is commonly called a 302
It's smaller than the Buick V8 developed by Rover.

A modest build gives around 350
A hot rod favourite here.

Edit: Here = US

They are the ford modular v8s not the 302... these are overhead cam and the 302 was a pushrod.

As such they are wider and im sure wouldnt fit a wedge chassis, where as a 302 will even drop into an unmodified 280 chassis ( well apart from engine mount mods)

the 32v version is even wider !!!!
cheers

Guys be cautious with the conversion, Brian Lutti at TVR Dreadought garage rebuilds mustang engines and started a project to fit it in a cerbera....it was wide but the Chassis was easy modified...However, he stopped the project because the Flywheel's diameter was about two to three inched wider that our TVR V8 flywheels.

There would have been no clearance under the car for it to drive safely, it was'nt the engine that was the issue...

I have a 302 in my 280i and I can tell you that there is no way to fit the 4.6. Well no reasonable way. There is a bunch more performance products for the 302-351. The 302 is a better fit into a US 280i than the rover V8.
