Windows XP/Microsoft Works/Excel question

Morning all,

I have a friend who is trying to send me Microsoft Excel files. Now I thought that this was part of the XP/Microsoft Works package which came with my laptop. However I can't get the files to open.

Is there a secret way to get them open or am I going to have buy Excel??

Openoffice.org should be able to cope

There are free Excel Viewers available for download from Microsoft.

Search for excel viewer either on Google or Microsoft site.
