Morning all.

I was caught on Marlow Hill doing 38 in a 30. For those who know the area can you help. I didnt realise they had a mobile van/gun on the downhill side? I have heard rumors of motorbike cameras etc etc. Can someone please advise???

Well, for advice you would need to tell people why you need advice?

If you were doing 38 in a 30 and got zapped then guess what happens next?

You might want try the "Speed, Plod & the Law" forum as there are many people there with loads of experience and can give you some facts to back up any potential claim from you. Also pepipoo.com may be useful.

But, at the end of the day, if you were driving at 38, and they got an accurate NIP to you within 14 days then you will have an adjustment to your licence and wallet coming.

The Scam vans can also be on either side of the road - my last misdemeanour about 2 years ago was by a scam van on the opposite side of a dual cariageway and the operator zapped me by hand apparently as I was driving a very loud car very fast! Luckily they screwed up the NIP though... biggrin

Van tends to sit up at the top near the lights (in the 40 limit) for the downhill stretch, and in the school driveway for the uphill stretch. I've not heard of them sitting in the downhill 30 limit...

I'm dubious that they can do you from the school driveway for the downhill stretch...

Sorry prob didnt make myself to clear. I was wondering if anyone had heard of the van catching people going down the hill. I always see the uphill one near the lights and in the shcool driveway. I didnt realise you could be done by vans on the opposite side of the road???

I should put this down as a learning experience then... wink

Probably best not to go for the court option either if it was in a 'school zone 30 limit' - friend of mine tried that and got 6 points and a £250 fine; specifically because it was a school zone and the judge viewed that very dimly indeed. And he was caught on a Saturday, i.e. no school kids! eek

Chris - the van can get you in either direction so long as he can point the camera at you. Some twonk killed himself a few years back on the wall outside the hospital exit, so they've even got prior on this road for justification.

It's 30 near the Hospital/school isn't it?

30 down, 40 up. Some councillor got caught going up above 30mph ... a few months later the limit got raised. Strange that. I never had a problem keeping my cars to 30mph there...

Going down the hill is 40 then 30.

A friend got caught aswell same day 38 in a 30 and my girlfriends uncle got caught aswell 38 in a 30 (twice now). There speed guns must be fixed on 38!

It actually drops from 40 down to 30 about half way down the hill (going down).

38 is probably 40 on the clock. So people think they're doing 40 (=38), and passing the 30mph sign at the limit change going downhill at this speed maybe? Crafty of the scamera chaps, but legal.

I think speed awareness courses are handed out at 36mph. They used to be very specific about it.

My NIP said for offences detected after 1st April 2007:
Speed awareness thresholds are;
30mph limit - 35 - 39mph
40mph Limit - 46 - 50mph
50mph limit - 57 - 61mph
60mph limit - 68 - 72mph
70mph limit - 79 - 83mph
Prior to this date the threshold was the first 2mph in each range i.e. 35 and 36mph in a 30mph
