Radar detectors
Discussion
Does anyone out there use a radar detector, and if so which one.
I've been looking around and there seems to be 2 different types, a basic radar/laser detector, which does exactly what it says on the tin, or the more expensive GPS type, which knows where all the fixed/mobile/specs etc. sites are.
If anyone knows anything I'd be interested,

IMO radar detectors are useless. Only two devices worth getting - one that tells you with the cameras are, and ESSENTIAL a laser blocker/jammer. I used an SLD 920 on my Elise and it works perfectly. very highly recommended. go to somewhere like www.snoopershop.co.uk for details (I have no allegiances with the company).

I've been looking into this for the site and like most things,
it depends what you want to spend.
A good inexpensive entry level is the Snooper 715 which
you can pick up new for under £100.
This will just alert if you approach a 'live' camera or radar
and then of course you must react, but with a radar, it may be too late...
The only thing to help there is a jammer, which unlike
the Snooper, is not so legal.
The Road Angel seems to be the mid price device people
use which unlike that Snooper has GPS to aid it and is
also able to show your true speed.
These can be obtained for about £200 - £300.
Moving up market is the Road Pilot & Radar alert.
Using GPS and an extensive digital display, this
will tell you where the camera's are before you get
to them. I believe it will also advise on accident blackspots
( a good place for vans / radar points )
and of course gives you more comprehensive data about
speed, mileage and can also be used to plot a route
via point reference.
Without the Radar this is around £400 and with, about
£800.
As ever, search the threads on Pistonheads, but in particular,
check our SPEEDING, PLOD & THE LAW at:

I hope that helps a little.

I've got a road angel and it seems to work well. IMHO the laser detector thing is a waste of time but the basic unit seems to know where all the cameras are, even the new ones the east bit of the M25 (around jctn 26-27) which aren't working yet.
Plan to get a laser jammer as well though because you never know.....
