NEW to the S world - Help!

I have just bought (23/07) an S3C 1991 and am already deeply in love It has only done 24,000 miles and has FTVRSH from David Hendry. However, I wish I had looked at PistonHeads in a lot more detail before I purchased!!

I wandered if any of you kind spirited S - owners would help me out on a few points?

Is the Steve Heath TVR S book only available through TVRCC?

Had a quick look at the chasis before I bought it and the original red paint? has flaked off in most areas and there is a fair amount of surface rust, although no wholes that I could see!! It think it needs a full rub down / rust prevention paint / waxoyl etc. Does anybody know anywhere in the London (West) area that can do this and what the potential cost would be?

Alternatively if you are a dab hand at this yourself and are relatively local and would like to do the job please let me know. Or would I be better of doing it myself?

I am also looking to fit a stainless steel exhaust. Again can anyone recommend somewhere in or around the London area? Or can you recommend a good place to get it done.

Unfortunately I live in a highly prevalent speed hump area so cannot risk the exhaust being any lower than it already is!!

The most important places to check for serious rust:
1/ The outside corners of the front outriggers, where stones thrown by the front wheels attack the tubes and cause the triangular plate to disolve.
2/ The open tubing that forms the rear semi-trailing arms.

Get the book asap.

You can buy 'the Bible ' direct from Steve Heath publishing, do a search and all will be revealed.
Chasis cleaning , painting and waxoyling is DIYable,with axle stands and trolley jack , it can be done professionaly at about £150 i think.
Have look on this forum for info about S/s exhaust systyms it has been well aired a few days ago.

Peninsula Automotive will do you an exhaust and as long as you've got a trolley jack and a socket set you can fit it yourself.. I'd highly reccommend buying new lower manifolds at the same time and use new Exhaust clamps etc as you go.

PS. Waxoyling etc... I'd do it by hand yourself if you have a trolley jack.. you'll start to learn quite a bit about your new purchase by poking around the chassis for a few hours.

Waxoyl - diy a messy job but needs doing as said pay particular attention to the outriggers the passanger side usually is worst garage cost probably £80+vat upwards

Tip I picked up (and already done by previous owner) was to make extra 'flaps' cut out of old rubber mat or something, and attach them behind the inner wing at the rear. They only hang down an inch or so, but they are enough to stop the sht collecting on the triangular plate from flicking up from wheels. Think above is obvious but can take pics if anyone wants.

I'm also planning to extend the inner wheel arch to protect the tubes, by rivetting rubber carmat material to the existing arch. It's job #3 on my "when-I-get-round-to-it" list.
