So my little Pug failed on a handful of sundry bits and pieces:

o/s indicator not working - fixed
washer jets not working - fixed
rear seat belt not retracting - fixed

Only a couple of bits left:

How do I get at the o/s side repeater? I cant get the wing off, and there is no wheelarch liner to remove....

Small split in o/s outer CV boot - I'm told that they are a pain to replace as you need a special tool. Have been advised that I can just drop the whole driveshaft out take it to the garage and have them replace it for me. Is that true / is there an easier way?

Thanks for your help chaps!

You can do it without a special tool but it takes a bit more time, its not to bad a job if you are ok with tools

the side repeater should just twist about 30 degrees and pop out of the wing

Interesting... I'm pretty handy having worked in garage's when I was in my teens. Have changed loads of CV boots in the past which came apart with circlip pliers. Whats special about the Pug system?

they will either have a circlip or they will knock off. they probably have a tool which can stretch a cv boot over the joint without having to take it off. i wouldnt class it as a special tool but it makes things easier. if you have done a cv boot before i would have thought you could do it easy

Often it's cheaper and easier just to replace the shaft.

You have to disconnect hub from driveshaft anyway so you might as well replace it. plus you don't know how long it has been leaking greae everywhere.

Only takes an hour to swap.

The joint is still packed full of grease, the split in the boot is tiny. Replacing the driveshaft seems a little like using a hammer to break an egg - and then there's the parts cost.

Guy down the road will put the new boot on for £25 & the boot cost £5 - so thats whats going to happen. Basically it will have cost me £18 in parts & £25 labour to fix everything for the MOT - not bad for a car that cost me £150 a year ago! Good job I know how to do some of the basics though, otherwise a garage bill could easily be getting into £250+

Fair point - I would have done it the split was larger and the grease had gone.

If the split is that small and there is still a decent amount of grease inside then jsut repair the bott. Get some ethanol (or similar) to clean up the wall of the split and the surrounding area and then get some black silicon sealant to fill the split and cover over teh top. Leave it to go off for a while and bos your uncle. Worked for me loads of times and has easily gone through MOT's etc.
