If this hasn't already been posted, and just in case you didn't know:

http://web.ebay.co.uk/businesshub/index.php?page=p...

In short, the Final Value fee was 5.25%; it's now 7.5% - an increase of 43%. They've cut the listing fee by 5-10p but that's hardly relevant.

But of course the obscene increase is masked by championing the cuts and saying how fair the new deal is - in fact Gordon Brown couldn't have done it better.

So for an item that you list at £4.99 and which sells for £15.00, you pay:

Listing fee: £0.15
FVF @ 7.5%: £1.12
Paypal fee @ 3.4% + 20p (assuming the postage is £2.50): £0.80

So of your £15 you lose £2.07 in charges, which is 13.8%.

NEWSFLASH june 2008 eBay have gone out of business, it is thought that the new outrageulous price hike had something to do with it.
Tbh i dont really think that it will make much difference as people will still use it.

Noticed a fair number of people do not use the PayPal but rather recieve the money by old fashion cheques. Saves a bit of cash on those fees.

I wonder what the EC Monopoly lot would make of it? There are other internet auctions, but then you don't have to buy a PC - and Microsoft got a pasting.

that probbably somthing to do with ebay/paypal siding with the buyer in 99.9999999% of all cases.

you pay me with paypal, i ship to you, you say you didnt get it/was broken/etc, ebay/paypal give you your cash back and tell the seller to go whistle.

The new fees come in on Feb 20 - but it's not clear if the listing date fixes the fees.

I'll overlap - getting everything out of storage on 18th and getting it home on the 19th. Some I'll manage to get up before the 20th, some after.

Actually, what's the shortest auction time? I fly on the 28th. I haven't really thought this through have I biggrin

If everyone starts stating no paypal anymore & discount for cheque payment they'll soon get the message.

I now contact people directly as a matter of course to see if I can buy direct.

You can do 1 day listings, but the selling price will be affected. Why don't you just have a massive sale of all your stuff on here...

Could certainly get shot of some stuff here, aye, like DVDs I guess. A fair chunk of it is (yes very sad tongue out) movie memorabilia that has a relatively "narrow" market.

I tried to sell an xbox 360 before christmas, and was told by ebay that i could only offer paypal as the ONLY method of payment, seeing as they own paypal, surely this is wrong.

I also recieved approx £500 on one item i sold, & paypal took nearly £20! plus approx £20 ebay seller fees! you'd think with this kind of profit, that they'd offer their own insurance in the price - Not seize the sellers money, if the buyer claims they didn't get the item - paypal should cover the insurance themselves out of their massive profits, just like royal mail would have to pay for a lost item.

ebid offer free listings & no FVF fee, i'm selling there in future & will never sell on ebay again.

ebay as a company are a fecking disgrace. I have used them a lot over the years, as there is sadly no competition.

If ever anyone needed a warning of the danger of monopolies, then ebay is surely it. Zero customer service, abusive charging, total control of their market.

Surely now has to be the time for the massive worldwide launch of a new global auction site.... maybe Virgin should be focussing their attention on this rather than on Northern Rock....
