You're unlikely to beat that price without going through private listings (ebay, MacWorld classifieds, etc.)
http://www.2ndchancepc.co.uk/mac-pro.html have a loaded version of the same machine at £1526 inc. VAT

If you buy from Apple or Mac Warehouse through Quidco you can get 3-5% rebates off that sum, as well as the warranty smile

Don't forget you can, if you qualify, get educational discounts.

The cheapest place is almost certainly Apple's HE store. It's rather nice to be able to get at it. biggrin

Cancom sometimes has cheap refurb stuff. I had a couple of emacs from there a while ago & you would struggle to know that they weren't brand new (apart from the price)

The higher education store. Not sure on the link, but go on the main site and it's on there. Just type in any place of education to take a look at the prices.

For example, the £700 Macbook can be had for just over £600.

Have a look here! I have found that I get a better deal by ringing them direct. They are very efficient!

That's the Education Store, the HE store is a few pounds cheaper still than that.

e.g. 1TB Time Capsule is £329.00 in the Apple store, £303.15 in the Education store but only £292.58 in the HE Store.

AFAIK you can only get at the HE store from known UK HE IP addresses.

As I said, you need to be on one of the UK HE networks.

It is worth noting that you can also get the HE discount price in Apple Retail stores. Obviously, you have to have the required proof of currently being at, or involved with, a HE institution, but its the same level of discount. Handy if you don't want a BTO order or live close to one of the stores.

I didn't know that, but it certainly seems a logical and sensible thing to do.

Heh. That's running Windows and MS web server.

What is it - presumably a gateway on the old JANET (showing my age now, presumably it's all linked up now and it just knows which IP ranges are from registered higher education institutions) - I really can't believe it's an Apple site.

Apple have been eating their own dog food for a long time - the Apple website has run on OS X and WebObjects for ages. It took Microsoft some time before they started eating their dogfood (MS's website was originally Apache on Unix IIRC)

The .ac.uk domain would be the giveaway there then. biggrin Yes, you're almost certainly right. It's just a gateway that controls access from UK HE sites to the real HE Store at Apple. That gateway looks like it is run by Cardiff University.
