Have recieved an email through my website which purports to be a genuine enquiry but for some reason I smell a rat. Is there any way for me to find out when the email address was created? If it has only been in existence for 24 hours I can be pretty sure it's one of our competitors trying to suss us out.

Cheers,

RNR

Stick the domain in www.dnsstuff.com that should tell you everything you need to know. If it's a Hot/G-mail type address then you're stuffed.

I don't think there would be any way I can think of.

I would rather ask some more general questions to try and suss them out.

One of our direct competitors rang us up from a mobile and asked us to 'send some info' about our current offers and made up something that they wanted to use us. Their address was suspiciously close to where our competitors office is. I got the person who took the call, to ring the competitor up, and after a few rings they picked up, out of breath as they seemingly had made the call to us on their mobile outside then ran back up to the office.

Lo and behold, it was the same person!

Needless to say we sent them their info - but it was information I had written for them specifically and nothing to do with what we offer, just to throw them off. Serves the sods right. smile

yahoo emails not give much out, but check the headers for something like originating IP, put that into a whois and then ripe or arin whois for region specifics, will tell u the isp behind it

but virtually all people who contact me via yahoo want to sell me drugs, pron, penile growth enhancers, etc...
