I have a really annoying fault on my 04 Ford Ranger,
When I unlock the drivers door with the key, the alarm goes off!!

I lock it and unlock it a few times and it stops, it does not do this all the time.

Mine allegedly does not have a blip control for unlocking the car, Ford checked on there computer as I thought that might be an easy cure.

Mentioned it at a dealership recently, they didnt really have much of a clue either which only leads me to beleive they will spend ages looking for the fault, an auto electrician has suggested dodgy relay or central locking control unit.

Anyone else had similar with a Ford.

not familiar with the ranger

If you open the car with the key and the alarm goes off, does it go off if you turn the Ign on?

Does the car have a remote?

Hi

I thought all XLT Rangers had remotes but never got one with the car, and told by Ford that some don't come with them, they checked on the computer, that is a bit strange when you consider the Thunder is the fully loaded version but hey.

Nope alarm stays on but car does not crank or start, havent tried much else as by that time a few people are wondering whether I am in the process of stealing it.

I think it could be central locking as when you turn the key, you then feel the central locking on the key, all a bit weird.

This fault is now driving me nuts, its been to a main dealer now who cant find anything wrong with it, it apparantly did not do it when they had it, but when I went to drive it out of there car park, yes you guessed it off it went.

I did go and drag one of them over but he said "we could start replacing stuff if you like but not sure what would cause that" joy...

Looks like I will have to get the wiring diagram out, maybe if I disable central locking it will go.

Mine was supplied without a remote fob, and on the computer it comes up as a non remote fob model, again the dealer seemed confused by this as they thought it was standard on all the XLT Thunders

Anyone had similar grief with a Ford, maybe I should post this on a Mazda forum?

with my fiesta i have same problem when opening the door manually.
i also had the problem occuring ever 1/10 times i opened it with the remote key. apparently its the gem unit that needs replacing and is a common fault (thats in the fiesta anyway) dont know if its the same for you tank smile
try ford-trucks.com for possibly more information regarding the subject.

I will look into that, I have now disabled the horn part of the circuit after looking at the diagram, it has its own separate one not connected to the main ones.

So now it just flashes the indicators, then after a few unlocks and locks it goes off.

Thanks,

Joe
