I'm being quoted ET38 for the front, surely these will be too far into the arch?

Yes, ET38 will be further into the wheel arches. I think ET38-40 are Ford sizes, so quite easily available, I have some myself!
Are you going for the 245 section tyres for the front? It will handle a lot better on 215 or 225 rubber, which will also help you maintain the nose down attitude that balances the car better.
Simple answer is to go for the narrower tyres and fit a 5mm spacer to bring the ET to 33. Anything larger than a 5 mm spacer will result in needing longer studs too.

Sticking to 225/45/16 on the front as I currently have 16" Estorils all round

Still love my compomotives for overall looks/weight/strength. will most likely be for sale soon though as the car is going in the spring hopwever they are black and not gold anymore lol

Wheelbase said the dares all come with gold rivets now to avoid bbs copyright? Stanced still seem to list them tho

Because the original fronts were 7" wide then went to 7.5" hence the et change.
