Nice guitars these Epiphones, I had a black Custom for about 8 years!
I found the electrics were a weak point, but it was a nice guitar. Never used to like white but yours looks great
I changed the standard pick ups on mine for a pair of Zakk Wylde EMG's.I found the electrics were a weak point, but it was a nice guitar. Never used to like white but yours looks great
Difference is night and day, she really roars now, feels really odd jumping from the LP back to the Gretsch with passive pick ups.

I had BurstBuckers in mine, sounded good with them! Had to do all the wiring and pots as well. Difference is night and day, she really roars now, feels really odd jumping from the LP back to the Gretsch with passive pick ups.
I am yet to own a guitar with active pickups, considering a set of active EMG single coils for my Strar but that's not really the same thing

Just unearthed mine. Its been in its case without being touched for nigh on 4 years. The shame!
Its a bit jazzy and I havent cleaned it up yet but I still like how it looks and it sounds amazing. Nicest guitar to play I have come across personally.
Going to get this back into regular use as much as I can!

I have a Strat style guitar with EMGs, and am very happy with it, no plans to change ever.
Is it the set of 3 single coils? That is what I was looking at... How do you find them compared to the originals - any loss of tone / drawbacks that you can think of?
What I am looking for a really clean, pure, sharp sound, the output from such a guitar can always be treated to produce any amount of overdrive or distortion but if the clarity isn't there to start with it can't be out back in.

It is indeed the full set. White on a white scratchplate (the body is American Black Walnut).

I agree, I much prefer slightly lower output pickups as it gives more scope to tweak the tone on the amp. I will need to see if I can get a go of a guitar fitted with them, hopefully the local guitar shop will have a couple in.
Do you need to replace the battery often? Every year or so I would have thought?

I've got a set of the David Gilmour EMGs on my US Roadhouse Strat, and I think they are excellent, you can get a really good range of sounds out of them. A battery lasts a bit less than a year, obviously it depends how much you play it. If you leave the lead plugged in, the battery flattens very quickly of course. They are very definitely high output though, you don't need your amp gain up much at all to get nice drive - but to me that means you have more scope for tweaking the tone, not less.I will need to see if I can get a go of a guitar fitted with them, hopefully the local guitar shop will have a couple in.

I have to confess however that since I got my PRS I rarely play the Strat, which is a shame as it's a lovely guitar.

I noticed he uses them, thats what put me onto them in the first place! Interesting that you think it gives you more scope, I would have thought it is easier to dial more gain in to a lower output pickup than reduce it for a cleaner tone from a higher output one? Sounds quite similar to me, my Dad had had my Strat for most of this year and I have been playing my Les Paul!
Do the EMGs still give you the distinctive "Strat" tone from the neck pickup? This sort of thing:

(Not that I can play as well as that )

Pretty much. I just did a quick back-to-back check between my EMG Strat and my other Strat (Texas Special SCs) and with the SPC mid-boost wound back on the EMGs it sounds pretty similar to me.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ab_k6ZrCPmw

Note to self: it's a bad idea to have guitars within easy reach when you're supposed to be working

Lucky son. That's a lovely looking thing
It's his first acoustic (acoustic-electric actually) as up to now he's only played electric. It's got a nice sound, especially when plugged-in. It's also very slim and so quite portable which suits him as he's a student and lives wherever...
Here's one of mine. Custom Tele. Built and maintained by Chris Slack at Tobacco road. Custom wound Oil City Nightfighter at the bridge. Naked Angel at the neck. Not sure about the neck PUP yet as it's a bit high in output. Nickel Strings. The bridge pickup is utterly incredible. The body is Alder, old and battered, the neck is fairly new. It's been hacked about a lot, had loads of different PUP configurations. I feel daft with any other guitar.
