03 Plate Focus ST170 - Corroded Sump

Mate in work has just come back from the garage with the diagnosis of a corroded and hence cracked sump leaking oil.

Immediate question - what the hell?! Its a 4 year old car, is this a known fault?

Secondary question, is the sump common with other 2.0 units and hence a replacement could be sourced through a scrap yard?

The ST170 sump is unique to that car. Cossosion has been known to occur due partly to its design and heat from the exhaust. I was lucky enough to get mine powdercoated before more corrosion ate away at it.
