Ted, I don't know if you've taken a look at the 'Ugliest Cars' thread recently, but it has degenerated somewhat, largely through the efforts of elemchukwu.

Any prospect of a ban on those who get a kick out of winding other people up, by being generally (and somewhat unimaginatively) rude?

I fully agree with this. I will fully admit to having reacted to this bloke because he CAN'T take a joke and doesn't seem to know what the word "banter" means.

Please Ted don't stop the friendly banter, that's what makes this forum great.

If anyone reads the "ugliest car" thread you can starkly see the difference between "banter" and just being offensive and rude.

Ted, I don't know what you meant by 'Done', but the wonderful Elemchuckwu has just returned to us after a short absence!

Hmmm.... Thoughtfull mode on (not easy) -

Its always tempting to retaliate - praps I could sit on them , however the most effective method may be to ignore their posts and carry on as if the offensive comment did not exist - I'm sure that part of the reason for the personal attack is to get people to bite.

What do you think? If no one responds to this, I'll have my answer

Difficult to do. A lot of people need to ignore the post. Only one person needs to respond to start a slanging match. It also wouldn't stop the thread from becoming scattered with insulting epithets from an offending user.

Someone has suggested a 'hide user' option to allow a specific person's posts to be automatically filtered. Might be tricky to implement, but it sounds like a good idea. Or a straight ban on a user could be imposed by Ted.

The first option probably takes longer to set up, but would become self administering. Banning people would require Ted's time and judgement on each occasion.

Well, I've just noticed the half dozen or so posts he (we all know who) made at arond 3o'clock this morning have all disappeared! Either Ted has been out with the hammer or there is a bug in the website!

IMO this is a pretty isolated case. You only have to browse his profile to see his comment "none of your business" to find out what this guy is like.

read through his previous posts and you get a familiar ring. I say ban him if he can't stop being abusive. It's obvious from all the angry responses that many of us have had enough of him. It's fine to say "ignore him" but until when? How abusive does he have to get?

I like the idea of people able to 'filter out' certain peoples comments.. Would that be quite a difficult task ??

Perhaps we could also be reasonably self regulating on the 'ban' front with some sort of vote system ? - With the Final say from Ted to judge if they are just being abusive all the time
(I am making it up as I go along, don`t know if it makes sense)

Beware, if an individual really wants to cause havoc, booting him off will only wind him/her up. What's to stop them popping back 2 mins later with a new user name?

Short of infringing rights (and probably breaking the law these days) by storing cookies without permission (if indeed the guilty party allows cookies anyway), I can't see how you can stop this sort of abuse.

I agree, ignoring is the best way to deal with annoying tykes....To ban anyone who uses DHP via an ISP is neigh on impossible without uploading something to their machine. Take their comments with a pinch of salt and a then get on with LIFE

A cookie will get you part of the way though... most people don't clear their cookies often - some of them are even useful!

Ted, have you or have you not officially (or as officially as you can) banned/binned/jumped on/stuffed/removed Elemchukwu?
