Is there still a demand for the infamous glovebox latch? I was trying to order some from a SouthCo supplier but was told that they would only supply 25, obviously over 3 years I'd probably get through them but for the time being would probably stick with 2 or 3. If anyone needs any then let me know and I'll order a load up, probably be about £3.50 each. If not I'll wait until my next service.

Yeah, that's where I'm trying to order them from. Got an email back from them today saying that they only sold them 25 at a time. Maybe I'm doing it wrong. Think I may just give into the problem and buy a magnetic latch.

Thanks anyway

You could also try Rapid Electronics 'door retaining catch', code 31-0050 at 26p.

Glad to help - by coincidence I went there for the first time yesterday to get a replacement switch for a bandsaw and picked up their catalogue. So now I'm their second smallest customer, if you know what I mean! Hope it fits and hope you didn't have to pay £4.95 p&p!

Nope but £3.95 P&P, so thats £1.04 for parts and £3.95 for delivery. The worst bit of being that I've just got in to find a package on the floor from rs. So I've got 3 from them and 4 more on there way. Might upgrade my kitchen cupboards whilst I'm at it. My brother works quite close to the Rapid shop by the looks of the map so I might be ordering some more stuff from them. I downloaded their catalogue last night and am now planning on having my Griff done up with so many LEDs it'll be like Christmas every day. Did the chap in there have a smile on his face from my earlier sale, they've really been raking it in today by the sounds of it. Your switch must have seemed like pennies compared to my massive £4.99, infact it probably was pennies.
Thanks again,

Umm - £1.06 inc VAT from the trade counter. Luckily I had a meeting about half a mile away so it was no bother to visit. It did take about 20 minutes though as the place is vast and they kept scampering off to check bits. Apparently one tiddly switch has to go through the same order assembly process as a big mailorder one (like yours!)

Why did you get four? Or do you just want to make sure it stays closed this time?!

Well I'd budgeted on £1 so that's what I decided to spend, I did go a bit over that but I guess I'm entitled to be a bit flash with the cash now and again. By the way I'm already on the 2nd one that I got from RS and that's still not great. Fitted the female bit and it doesn't budge an inch or even a mil, attached the male part to it, closed the glove box so that the male part would adhere and release the latch which it did, tried closing it and the bast$%d didn't line up properly, it works with a tiny bit of brute but that's not the point. I'm now waiting on the ones from Rapid to see if they're any better. Failing that my local B&Q has a special on 6 inch nails at the mo.

I gave up afer a good few goes... now it's un-catched but just tightened to keep it firm & closed - and opened with a tug

I tell you what, I'm glad there weren't any kids within ear shot of my car when I was trying to fit it, I never knew I could swear like that. I've had a couple of goes this week and think I'm now getting the problem. When the glove box closes, the dash and the lip of the glove box are at different angles, that's why when the male part is released from the latch and stuck to the glove box lip, it won't then go back.

I have cunning plan though. I need to make some kindda washer to make the male part fit flushly with the female flange(I know that's not the correct terminology but sounds in context with the rest of the male/female stuff). To do this I'm going to use some Plastic Metal to correct the angle and form a washer for the bottom of the male bit. I've declared today 'Glove Box Maintenance Day' and will conquer, oh what an exciting life I have!

It only &%¬*ing worked! Excuse my language. Managed to lose one latch removing it, it pinged out and it's now down the back of the dash somewhere, oh well. Lucky I bought so many.
