Basically I'm thinking of starting a business later this year supplying alternators, starter motors, batteries, bulbs, number plates and clutches. I've been looking for around a week now trying to find the perfect software to run a fairly small business.
I'm used to Comtech which is a Windows 98 based package but it's fairly archaic and from my experience VERY error/crash prone and completely unreliable.

Basically this is what I'm after, an integrated package that will allow me to;

Be XP based at least
Audit/control stock
Allow me to print off reciepts/invoices
Do tax/VAT calculations
Prices (cost to me/cost to retailer) and source of supplier
Purchase file (who, where and went it came from)
Be operational on at least 3 computers (networked)
Barcoding preferable but not essential.
Have Technical support handy or easy to fix.
Be at a reasonable cost (nothing stupid in terms of price!)

Any ideas folks?

Plenty out there, Sage and Quickbooks to name a few... just make sure you choose one that your accountant can support, otherwise it could be costly long term.

Hi phil - the main advantage is integration, you can progress the client file from marketing to prospect to customer etc all from within one system either directly or through the web. Single point account management CRM..

Does it integrate with Outlook?
