Morning
I justtried to start my Range Rover P38 and it turnsover but wont start, the display also says Traction Failure. It's back wheels are on a slightdownward slope of my drive, could this effect it?

Thanks

Mark

Do you have sufficiant power in the battery?.A duff or low on charge battery will throw up traction failure. If there is very low voltage, then traction failure will be the first symbol thrown up on the display. You need a very healthy battery to turn the 4.6 over.Anything just slightly lesss will turn over slowly and flood the engine.

Ohhh thanks that could well be it. I've been having problems with the alarm going off all night and 1 time it drained the battery totaly (even though the garage claim theres nothing wrong with it).

I'll try charging the battery up and see what it does. Thanks again for your help though.

Remember you need a good fully strong battery to turn it over to fire it up.You may ahave flooded the system first time round.I'm 99% sure that you dont have traction failure.Your problems lay with the battery.Good luckthumbup

Oh battery drain ! My indoor weather station(could be door alarms etc) would drain my battery, waking up the car through the night. Simple fix, remove the aerial for the alarm blipper, still works, just close up though.

Can you elaborate on:
a) the indoor weather station - are you serious that this can be the cause of the problem. My car has been into the garage 3 times and every time it behaves itself. However, in my drive, the battery goes flat after days. I have an Oregon Scientific weather station. Could this really be the problem?
b) the aerial - where is it and how do I remove it?

Thanks in advance,
Shentodj

Blimey what a winner if that's the cause!

I had the battery drain a number of times.Normally caused by a remote signal causing the electrics to stay awake.Last time it happened,it was caused by a baby monitor.Which in that case immobilised the engine.Only cure was a tow away and reset on a lap top.

Immobilising the engine is a common one with some petrol stations. They have a radio system linked to the till which tells headquarters when to send a delivery. This can shut down Land Rovers and the AA/RAC know they just need to tow it of the forecourt to get it going again.

Yep the same as me.
the dealers know and like to drag it out, at no charge of course !!!
The aerial is on the drivers side rear window, un plug it and you are cured. Ok you have to unlock nearby but better than not starting !

Having just ventured into P38 ownership, is it worth unplugging the aerial whether or not you are suffering from battery drain?

I did read about this problem on RangeRovers.net, and did wonder.

I've had my car for nearly a fortnight now (and it has sat untouched for at least five days whist I have been working away) and I haven't had any problems - but that doesn't mean that I won't suffer from them in the future.......
